What you say certainly has merit.  I would be crazy to argue any of it.  I guess I have been doin it long enough now that I've gotten all the fiddling outta the system.

Not that I would be adverse to getting another gun to fiddle - I just would never do it thinking I was gonna come up with something that was gonna make me Mr.Wonderful.  I did backslide in that regard (quality-wise) when I started with the Beretta SxS but that was simply because there was no advantage to me to pound a buncha$ into a SxS that was to be nothing but a toy, ever.

Rok On!!

Going a bit off this thread (and because I can't find the other relevant one), you may recall there was a discussion on here re felt recoil with different chokes. Ed Solomons was going to slap some money down against my claim to feel recoil change with different choke. Well, I was slightly unsure because it was a distant memory from my old browning and I have been shooting fixed choke with an ISIS recoil reducer for ages.

Well; yesterday I stuck a cylinder choke in my DT11 for one stand. The other barrel was 1/4 and the difference was clear. The whole matter of recoil was not in my mind before shooting it. So, my original challenge was to tell between half and cylinder I recall? Il take anybody's money.

The difference was clear because top and bottom barrel recoil differently, I am certain you know that already though so rather intrigued. This theory has incidentally been tested out over the pond and the general consensus is that all things being equal it is not possible to call out tight or open, I would be absolutely amazed in fact if you could tell between Cyl and 1/4 which are not really even significantly different.

I'd agree with hamster, I'll wish you look in the bet, but me personally I couldn't tell any difference, I often flicked the barrel selector by mistake and wouldn't notice until i looked at it so top barrel bottom barrel chokes I feel no difference, even different shells feel the same to me apart from rc2's they feel not sure how just different

Stttttttttttt tttttt ttttutering again Skeety?

10 on top of Will's 100 ....and it will if anyone takes the bet....

You don't do social media do you....
I presumed you meant pages....

I'll take the bet, no problem! I put the choke in and you compare recoil 3 times. Guess them right the money is yours :)

Personally I'd want more than 3 shots, it would have to be under reasonable amount of controls such as guaranteed knowledge chokes cannot be seen being screwed in OR when firing, obviously no targets involved as sussing a tight choke can be made easier by watching the breaks, also not knowing which barrel is selected to fire first  ;)  etc.

Years ago I was charlaaanged to picking out red and white wine served at room temperature, piece of cake isn't it ? That's what I BELIEVED too but prepare to be very humbled when your many other senses are taken away and you have to rely on taste alone.   ;)

Yes Hammy

Thought of that. We need an impartial choke screwer and as I said earlier, I need 5 pairs at fresh air and pledge to get it right 4 times. I'll get my legal dept to draw up a contract.

Your right there Hamid.

mrs ips father lives next door to us and he too likes a good scotch. I have earned a somewhat dubious reputation for enjoying the odd tipple so he regularily comes a knocking with a wee dram in hand a smile on his face and a "tell me what that is" a look a sniff and a taste and I still rarely get it right much to the amusement of mrs ips, mini ips, and father in law ips :)

So even full test is hard, blind test nigh on impossible.

I just take a big swig of beer and I know instantly.......................it's beer!!!!! I get it right every bloody time!!!! Then I have a few more, just to make sure.

They used to have them on old cars Tinker, you remember escorts and cortinas, probably allegros that sort of thing. There is no need for them these days so I would not worry yourself about it.

Yep I remember those, if the cable broke you were buggered until you fixed it! As for Allegros, what a pile of wotsit!!! They had a square steering wheel if I remember correctly, I think they called it a quartic steering wheel or summink!

If you remember as things technical progressed you could buy a retro fit "automatic choke" this was essential and should be fitted with your K&N pancake air filter, your centre console, your spot lights and of course the new fangled electronic alarms which never did work correctly and you allways had to disable the motion sensor as it went off for no reason. Oh the good old days of ford escore engine out sat 9am ford escort engine back in with FULL rebuild at sat 4pm. My engine doesn't even look like an engine these days.

Hang on have we gone off thread again, I blame tinker she mentioned choke.
