Hope I got the link correct,

I'm sure it happens quite a lot. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if it is all part of the anti's campaign to discredit guns and shooters.

I wonder what the cost of such nonsense was in terms of manpower, cars, helicopters etc . . . . . . . . . bloody frightening I would suspect, and who pays that bill ?

I had something slimier. I was setting the sights on my new air rifle one afternoon. On the evening of that day I had a knock on my door, when I opened it I was surprised to see two armed police officer's stood there. They informed me that a neighbor had reported me for shooting my shot gun in my back garden that afternoon  :fie: . I told them what I had been doing. They checked my shot guns and the said air rifle, where I was shooting it and at what. After this the police laughed at the thought of me firing my shot gun saying they thought a lot more neighbors would have complained if I had been using my shot gun. I know who the said neighbor is so I'll be sending her a bunch of flower's  :spiteful:   :comando:  . Not much difference between the sound of an air rifle and a shotgun. Malc.

I had a helicopter hover above my pigeon hide once a few years ago, there's a school playground within earshot of this particular field so wasn't entirely surprising. Anyway I think they were so impressed with my layout they didn't bother landing...............which was nice.

Prehaps your cammo was so good they did not spot you.

I've seen police choppers over clay shoots a few times...  at a strawbaler near Wokingham once, we had one swoop in quite low for a butchers.

They do helicopter training near EJC. Sometimes they appear a bit suddenly over a bank. GD told me he put a full pattern into the side of one!!

The whole issue of gun ownership is sadly overhyped and sensationalised on all levels, this was really brought home to me when my wife who is a teacher of some 30 years standing, she specialises now in children with behavioural  social and family issues. Last year she was having a coffee break with her colleagues as she has done for the last god knows haw many years, somehow the subject of guns came up and she innocently told the assembled that I shot regularly as a sport and owned a number of guns.

the reaction she got really shocked her, with a unanimous condemnation of my sport and real concerns as to the safety of our children with guns in the house! there was even a suggestion that because of the firearms she might want to review her position working with children !! Thankfully  my missus is very level headed and took time to explain the nature of the sport and the fact that all guns in the household were licensed. Despite this a number of her colleagues were still seriously concerned that someone they  worked with had access to guns. There seemed to be a general consensus that I or She  might run amok with them for some obscure reason.

She explained I belonged to a recognised association and that the police inspected our premises and ensured the guns were secure , this did  little to assure her colleagues they were firmly of the opinion ALL guns were dangerous and No ONe should have the right to own one except the military or the Police. I have since made sure we had all the ill informed and their partners around for dinner it is surprising how much they quote the sensationalist headlines of the media and believe everything is gospel!! the debates I have had have been quite astonishing in terms of peoples perception of owning a gun. I am afraid we all have to keep on aasuring and educating friends, colleagues and any one we might meet its a never ending task!!

The only way is Essex............... :haha:    :rabbi:

I have experienced this myself, for decades in fact. The media hype gets absorbed by the masses unfortunately, as gun owners we have to try to tell and convince everyone that we know, that we are responsible people and not would be "Rambo's". I also firmly believe that our governing bodies should do more to promote a decent image of gun owners off all types, however it always seems as though they stay silent about such things and only get into a panic when someone has masacred a bunch of people somewhere! I believe that gun ownership should have much better PR, the PR should be directed at the non shooting public and at politicians. In fact as far as I'm concerned, the CPSA, NSRA, NRA, BASC etc, should put good PR at the top of their budget lists, but I doubt if that will ever happen. As individuals there is only so much we can do, it is our governing/representative bodies that have the power to speak out on our behalf, however I do not feel that they have done much of a job over the past thirty years!

I have a neighbour who stopped me one Sunday evening (as I was unloading the car after a days FITASC) and asked if I kept the gun in the house.

She then proceeded to express her concern at the fact I kept a gun in the house with so many kids in the street.  I explained about the safe, the licensing process etc  - not interested.

She still tuts at me in the street every time I see her.

Matt

It is incredible how quickly people equate guns in house with kids in the street,my wife took ages to convince her colleagues that there was no threat of any kind to our children nor anyone elses!!!

You should only worry if you named your kids Midi, Mini and Battue.

The reaction of folk to guns is so dependant on their background and location of course. My cousin spent her whole adult life in London and when she saw my gun being cleaned it was viewed as if a ticking bomb.

In my local village pub, I would say that half the people in there are shooters of some sort, or are related to shooters. You could probably exchange cartridges for beer in there.. There is a clay shoot 400 yards from my house. Ironically I never hear it as I am always miles away at a proper one when its on..

Just tell your neighbours that the kids are perfectly safe as they're locked in the cellar and away from the guns

:)

I believe a lot of today's 'children' should be more securely locked away than privately owned guns should.

Living in Lincolnshire,a county heavily into game shooting, private ownership of guns is quite common and appears not to be so frowned upon.

Personally I can probably be accused of being a bit paranoid about publicising the fact that I am a gun owner. If I am loading my car to go shooting I do it when no one passing by can see me. Same when moving my gun into the garage for cleaning. I do not make it public knowledge that I am a shooter.

I am not ashamed of being a gun owner but I speak from experience,I just don't want the hassle from those people who cannot or will not try to understand private gun ownership in this country.

Vic.
