just got back from the worst days shooting ever,landed at 10am ,shot 5 stands after what seemed to take forever as the refs couldnt call names out loud enough and the organizers put 50 sporting and 75 clubman sporting on the same 10 stands causing much confusion some refs let you see a pair some didnt (diferent presantation on the same stand for each comp)and 9 spaces on the card for 10 stands.first card was bad so like a fool had another and finaly finished on a 40x50 at 2.30 so 4and half hours to shoot 76 targets, never again,like ed said in another post "prefer to go to dentist" but then again never had a chance to win a car there.

didn't shoot it (thank god) but had a stroll round today . 20+ deep on some stands . the midland has been crap since terry hale. you watch the mitsibushi from the grandstand and its like you're not there . no info for the crowd .frig knows whats going on. the guys sit for an hour or more there waiting for the clubman finalists to come and shoot( they are half way round their 4 hour sporting shoot) then when they start to shoot the traps are empty. doh. mitsibushi = biggest missed chance to promote shooting to the public ever. was like watching chuckle vision. is this really the best shooting can do?

sadly it been like it for many years. if it wasn't for the(slim) chance to win a car, nobody would shoot it. then if you do you can end up being a victim of the chuckles.

Interestingly I have been disillusioned with the Mitsubishi ever since Nick Hendrick was cheated out of it. It amazes me how people like Stirzaker & Myers, Thompson etc., cannot even qualify for the finals. Rigged or what? We have even managed to have two under age drivers win a car, how stupid is that?

But this weekend it sank to it's lowest level ever. A Junior is up to the age of 21 according to CPSA, an adult is generally accepted to be over 18 in the real? World. A Junior yesterday was anyone aged 18 at the Clubman unless like Mark Foxley a Staffordshire shooter, CPSA Staffordshire Junior Champion aged 18 who yesterday put in a winning score but was prevented from winning any prizes or competing in any shoot off because he was 18 in December 2011 ( =18 3/4) so yesterday they magically conjure up " Oh No you must not be over 18 on September 15th this year"

So, Organisers are you going to give him his entry fee, cartridge costs, and all his out of pocket expenses back?

No I didn't think you would after all Rules are Rules especially if we make them up as we go along.

Finally re The Midland Game Fair it was very sad to see that it was a very good year for the vermin that was allowed to roam freely, unrestrained because there was no security on Friday night allowing the vermin to cut their way into tents and Marquees robbing and stealing whilst people slept, I hope the Police are as lenient with the firearms dealers who lost guns & rifles as they are with this vermin amongst us who seemingly roam free unchallenged.

My friends daughter had her handbag containing her phone, cards, cash, cut free from around her arm whilst she slept. Imagine how that poor girl feels today.

I noticed there was ample security to make sure I paid my £17 entrance fee or didn't climb the fence!!!!!!

whilst i agree with your sentiments entirely, if you look on shootuk.co.uk under sporting gun clubmans in clearly states juniors to be under 18 on 15th sept 2012. this was posted on shootuk in june2012 so maybe they didn't make this bit up. dont' want to stand up for these muppets but its there.sorry

Dont want to go off track but I have never understood the stupid ages and dates we have in varius disciplines....just make it simple under 18 on day of Comp or under 21 on day of comp is a Junior. Simples.

same for veterans etc age on day of comp. It is quite easy really. All these silly cut off dates are not even needed.

I have been on the wrong end of it in my 21st year but have to shoot in Seniors. It is always up for discussion and complete bull.

There is no discussion to be had when you scrap stupid dates, and say Junior = Under 21 over the duration of the Comp. Simple.

I believe all these date rules were just put in for Veteran's? That is what I heard anyway, but who knows where they come from.

Thank you for that, I concur, but it really does highlight how stupid this all gets. The lad competed to the best of his ability, and let us not forget they are still impressionable. It just goes to show that we all must read ALL the rules ALL of the time.

After my rant earlier I did think of posting the following. Congratulations to all of the winners, whoever you are, well done.

Did my good friend Graham Stirzaker win the £1000 for a fifty straight? Did he have any change left? :.: :.: :.:

Oh dear sounds like lots of people had problems, graham won the truck but not the £1000 I think that was won by C Wills with I think the only 50 straight... But don't quote me we had a great time, Taylor got knocked out in the third round after a bit of a problem with competitors not being given the correct times for shooting but he was pleased to get that far seeing as he was shooting A class and at the moment he is B. I always enjoy the Midland and the boys enjoy the shooting, it did seem a bit disorganised with the sporting and clubman running together, a shame but when they put up big prizes you usually get lots of entries so really they should be prepared for it.....

Missed the Midland this year, and in some ways, from the comments above, I am now glad I did! I remember back to the days when Les Plant ran the shoot, I was very (very) young then and probablly didn't know any better. But the organisation and cost of the open shoots, the mitsibushi and the now musto competition has really put me off shooting it ever again.

Completely agree with your initial comments Paul - people are constantly asking the refs who is next, and it just makes the whole stand run slower - and when you get there you are not too sure of what targets are being presented to you. They must be able to do better!

That target you lost sir, you did in my opinion miss it, I will mark your card and sign it that we are contesting that loss and it can go to the jury or the ground manager, but I won't be changing my opinion.

A point on that that might save you winning/losing a shoot one day....

If you have a disputed kill, you CANNOT take it to the jury. The only way to get it resolved is to insist the head ref comes to the stand, whilst you are in it (ie you cant leve the cage) and you put your case to him there.

You cannot leave and take it to the jury after, as they have no power to overturn a refs decison after the event.

This cost the England team a arget at the worlds, it would have been horrific if we lost by 1. Fortunately we won by 3 but when its that cose every bird counts...

So, if you have an issue as we did (bird clearly broken, 2 squads witnssed and ref calls loss) stay put and dont leave till the head man comes round!

Remember this structure exists only at registered shoots. If you are at the Midland or any other straw-baler you are on your own. Rules are made up on the day by the organiser, or not as the case may be.
