Does anybody know what happened to Winchester Winners, why they all of a suddenly disappeared back in the 1990s, or are they still around in a different form.

Used to shoot trap 100 & 200 but like you not seen any since early 90s. .. shame.

I used 200's for many years, don't think they have ever been bettered, but that's just my opinion of course!

Only by the 300's?

They were '100' better surely? Nickel plated and everything!!  :sarcastic:

The 100 and 200 were brilliant, never got to shoot the 300 in any sort of number but doubt if they were anything but excellent. The factory in Europe shut down when the compression formed cases proved too expensive to produce ?!

They did re-market Winchester with plain cases I recall around 10-15 years ago but few liked them. In reality they would just have been some cheap fodder rebadged and it showed.

It would not matter these days hammy as consensus of opinion now seems to be that all cartridges are equal and there are no bad ones ;)

I tried some shells the other day, cheap ones from Sportsman Gun Centre, holes in the pattern big enough to drive a transit through!!!  A bit punchy too!

Loved the Trap 100, used them all the time, would still be using em today if i could!

There's no such thing as a bad pattern, just bad transit vans.

Les patterned them at 150yds. Near a pikey site. transit van came out to see what noise was and drove through pattern !!!

Winchester Silvers. £150 per 1000 20 years ago. Best shell I ever used.

But then my Lotus Cortina was best also.

Nostalgia is great as we all have fond memories of our best toys.

Oh yeah!!!! Forgot about those Silvers, they were good too, about £10 a thousand cheaper than Golds. I think they still made Silvers after Golds were stopped. The good old days!!!

Some people think all cartridges are brilliant regardless of cost and that it is they that are rubbish shooters. Some people have never considered that the beloved cartridge they chose is not suitable for the discipline there gun or themselves ;)

Well if the measure of how good a cartridge is comes down to personal opinion ... yeh your right there are lots of very good cartridges out there because there are plenty of people on here that will tell you how good they think a certain brand may be.

The truth of the matter is that, as far as I can see, there is no empirical evidence available whatsoever that shows one make of cartridge is any more effective than another even from the same manufacturer ... but there are plenty of people willing to stick their neck out and say this is the one to use.. I swear by them. It quite literally is a case of who do you believe as to self testing ... blind faith and not a lot more.

Animal Farm syndrome - all cartridges are equal, but some are more equal than others

i reckon we used to pay about £100-£102 a thousand for winners in the 90s and  shoot 250+ a weekend between 2 of us.Fantastic saturday for £30-40  :D good ole days when 50 sporting was a fiver,£2.50 for around of english skeet and £1 for 10 off the high tower

ips Holes in the pattern my ass! I gave Chris Turvey a couple today shooting Fitasc at Purbeck on a layout with a looooooooong  battue he minced it  at 60-70 yards and turned to me a said "there is nothing wrong with them".
