I know this has been done before... To have a bead or shoot without it. However today my white end bead fell off half way through the shoot. (No centre bead fitted )

Here's what I experienced. The barrels appeared to look flat in the sky no taper at all. On the rabbits could not see barrel relationship to hold point as dark grass and black broken clays. On teal could not achieve a line from hold point same for going away flat teal. Barrels and rib seamed more obvious than normal black rib in the sky that sort of thing. I spoke to another shooter he said it happened to him and had the same experience as me. Odd isn't it. Cost me a few today.

I have now lock tighted the screw and the bead in.

as you say we have done this many times, however its good to hear of an actual experience and a conclusion. I remain convinced that whilst a handful prefer none the vast majority of us do actually use them.

ps

mine fell off me game gun when 40up and I shot hodnet escorted by salopian, both will confirm. It sent me in a right tiz.

You feel the need, the need for bead.

I took mine off deliberately - about a year ago, my scores have gone up.  Not significantly, but they've gone up.  Less things to look at.

I tried without and could not get use to the flat look of the rib. Makes it look much wider which I cant get used to. Seemed to help on closer stuff but distant stuff I may as well have been aiming a broom handle.

I carry a set of those interchangeable flourescent plastic things. With my multi chokes, interchangeable bead sights, adjustable stock, adjustable release trigger set up, assorted shot sized cartridges and last,  but certainly NOT least,  my super all 'singin and dancin' shooting glasses with the adjustable bridge and interchangeable lenses, all 26 of them, I feel ready for anything the local straw baler can throw at me.

Not a bead on any one of my shotguns...Do you look at the ornament on your cars hood/bonnet when you drive?

No, but since suffering a couple of minor strokes a few years ago my left eye is lower than my right. Therefore this allows me to look ahead with my right eye, whilst the left one looks for potholes !

I guess everyone is different, had a gunfit at HandH a couple of weeks ago and the try gun had lost its bead, it felt very strange on the pattern plate and felt as if it was hard to align, but on clays I didn't notice at all, rightly or wrongly on moving targets I never see the gun, only the target.
