    What chokes for sporting clays?

Thread didn't need to go past this point. Good answer an bang on for a newbie to the sport!

TO BEAD OR NOT TO BEAD

George Achilleos has white tape on the end of the barrel so he is aware of the gun on dark backgrounds. I shoot Olympic skeet and shoot with a bead as i like having it in my peripheral vision as Jake said.

    Choke - A Lesson Learned.

You can still chip clays with full chokes.....bung a couple of 3/8's or 1/2 chokes in and leave it at that.

    90yd edge on crosser

Haha yeah standard challenge at Owls Chubby....that would have been around the 80-90 yard mark

    90yd edge on crosser

Me, Scotty and Ollie tried this at Owls Lodge last year Wayne. Using full chokes and 6.5's we missed A LOT more than we hit....bit of a fluke when it happened to be honest. Ask Rich im sure he'll set something up for you

Skeet noob - basic advice sought.

You're lucky being near Doveridge as they have great skeet ranges.....English and Olympic. I wouldnt jump straight into olympic as there is a big difference from English and it can put new shooters off. I wouldn't give up sporting for it either as shooting both go hand in hand....the skeet could...

    Fibre Wad or Choke change?

Keep at it and perfect it, there is nothing wrong with two half chokes or the shells.Technique is key....possibly see a coach for a session. Will save you practice money in the long run and you'll be sure you're on the right track.

    bead removed shooting

Its a personal thing.....I always replace the big white ones for a tiny metal one. I like having it in my pereferal vision. If you have a huge problem like aiming the gun then remove it. I had a chap at Owls Lodge yesterday who had an easy hit bead.....perfect invention to make sure you never...

    Henry Hopkins-Mental training

Based near Cambridge....it was a two day course Mike! More than your average coach but it wasn't average training and was one to one for two days!! Pm me for more details if you want. Yeah great to meet you Paul...did you shoot today?

    Henry Hopkins-Mental training

Iv just got back from a really enjoyable/informative two day course with Henry Hopking.....WOW! How little mental preparation I actually had before the course was really highlighted over the two days. We devised a mental routine.... the results were outstanding!! Couldn't recommend Henry enough...

    Same chokes in both barrels?

Stick two half chokes in and leave it at that! The breaks will be good enough to keep you happy and there won't be a target on a sporting course in the UK that would warrent anything tighter. Putting the lead in the right place is more important!

    essex masters

I agree with Mike I shot it yesterday and there is potentially a huge score if someone is shooting well. Apart from stand 13 on both courses there were only a few targets at real distance....the rest just needed thinking about with some awkward lines. Well set shoot with all classes in mind!

    Cartridges.......

21g,24g,28g......as a beginner as you'll be missing down to your own errors rather than shells. I can see everyones point about 21g, for costs and recoil they're great. Get whatever carts you're happy with or can afford and spend some money on coaching as you'll hit more by learning a good...

Owls lodge - sporting, today 20/3/14

Great course and scores that reflect the class system.....far to many shoots have been won on mega scores with C class being won with high 80's....surely the point is to test your shooting ability and technique. There were no silly targets on the course today but there wasn't an 'easy stand'...

    Widdington shoot(Upavon)

Its a good ground will.....targets are usually spot on! Same as any other shoot in terms of breakdowns....think Jem must have been unlucky!

    Learning curve

Pop down to Owls Lodge....il happily stick on any bogey targets Duncan :hunter:
