Ok folks, Im doing an article on the percentage of all the registered targets thrown in the course of a year by discipline....be interested to see if anyone has any thoughts as to what you think the breakdown might be? I have the numbers but im interested to hear peoples opinions...

Don't know about percentages but I would say that in order of popularity:

English Sporting

English Skeet

DTL

FITASC Sporting

Sportrap

Sk.D.

U.T

S.B.

ABT

D.R.

O.T.

A.R.

D.T.

O.S.

I'd pretty much agree with the above but think FITASC may be just above DTL

No, DTL is second, English Skeet third and FITASC fourth. You've also forgotten NSSA Skeet which is a registered discipline in this country, albeit nothing to do with the CPSA.

Didn't forget NSSA skeet or Helice but didn't put them in as they're not in the CPSA averages.

I  can tell you the number of targets shot by UK NSSA shooters from the period of:-

1st November 2011 to 31st October 2012

A total of 144 shooters shot a grand total of 216,893 REGISTERED NSSA targets in that time period.

Broken down like so:-

12 gauge - 113,760 targets (52%)

20 gauge - 35,783 targets (16%)

28 gauge - 28,450 targets (13%)

.410 bore - 24,250 targets (11%)

Doubles - 17,950 targets (8%)

Now it will be interesting to see the actual target numbers for the CPSA disciplines and how that breaks down but over 200,000 targets for what is considered a minority discipline in the UK i actually feel rather positive about NSSA especially given the limited number of grounds (7 in the UK) this is on offer at. Makes me wonder how many more targets would be shot if more grounds offered this discipline?

Plus would having loan tubes at various grounds encourage more people to try the gauges before making the commitment. Especially if they offered the option to buy cartridges in the gauges on the grounds so people did not have to buy "slabs" of 250 just to try a gauge. Then to register a ground costs $50 per annum for the ground owner.

NSSA membership is only $40 per annum for individual membership too, which seems cheap to me.

Skeetfreek, that works out at an average of 1500 targets each, not that much really!!!

DTL will dwarf sporting in parts of the country, DTL guys shoot all year round, at a guess I think DTL would not be that far behind sporting for no's of clays shot!!!

Sporting

DTL

Skeet

Who gives a toss

Who gives a toss

Darkside,

Quite right but as i say MINORITY DISCIPLINE and very specialist with the kit you need to shoot all four gauges.

I am interested to see how it stacks up against the CPSA stuff in terms of its equivalent minority disciplines - such as SB, DT, OT, OSK, AR, DR, SKD

I fully accept that it will be way behind the big three of ESP, DTL, SKT - and by a long way as they are really easily accessible in the UK to shoot with lots of grounds for each offering registered competition everyday of every weekend pretty much. Yet the minority stuff (all of them) you will some weekends be hard pushed to find an event at all - for instance there are only two grounds in the UK offering NSSA registered on a Saturday!

So my point was given the obvious drawbacks of NSSA Skeet in the UK the number was much higher than i expected which made me more positive about the discipline.

Glad you did not add Helice to the minority disciplines

Lots of love

Don as this sounds a terribly interesting subject.....have you any plans to spice up the article for adult shooters interest

Wasn't having a dig Skeetfreak, at a glance 200,000+ clays between 144 looks a lot, 1500 each doesn't really seem that much, perspective is a great leveller!!!

You'd need to ask FITASC for helice no's...not a cpsa discipline, I think?
Hahaha......yes it is.... So but out Scotty  xx

For your info we have county championships, inter-county championship, regional championship, English Open, British etc etc. Just like the other FITASC disciplines which are played in the UK.

As a scratch event there are no classes.....and as such is balls to the wall. The info is sent to Cpsa but I do not know if their system can deal with scratch comps...?

Only the GBR selection shoots show in the BICTSF rankings (and sometimes they are not accurate).

I think that this is another discipline where an introduction day would be beneficial. I for one would like to have a go at it and I know others also but diving in at the deep end by entering a competition where the rules are very different is a bit daunting.

Maybe I should book an O.T lesson at A1 and give it a go whilst I'm there. :nyam: :nyam:

Over to you Nicola! :nyam: :nyam:
