Ok so this as the title shows is about me now following the Fast diet or the 5/2 diet,
A bit of background first,
I am at the moment 46 years old and up until around 6.5 years ago had a active job as a mobile engineer, enjoyed going to the gym and keeping reasonably fit and active. This all changed when I took a role as a Consultant Engineer and became more desk bound. I was in this job for around 3 years and my weight crept up from 16 stone to over 19 stone, with a waist increase from 38 inches to 42 inches.
Prior to being made redundant, 2009, my work load decreased and to pass the time and bordom I was eating. After being made redundant, me and Hazel, my wife, were out visiting an aircraft muesum where she took apicture of me standing near an engine, I didn't like what I saw in that picture and decided to try to do something about my size.
Dug the old bike out from the shed and started cycling. Nearly keeled over going up this hill.
Brought a new bike and even went and the weight slowly started to drop off and also brought some new scales and started recording the weight. the first entry on 20/3 2010 showed the weight as 18.44 stone. In a year this had slowly came down to 17.3. and I have stayed around this weight for the last 2 years, although my fitness has increased and I can ride an easy 30 miles on the road now. I think one of the reasons I have stayed around this weight has been the availability of biscuits at work, which have been easy to eat, a lack of willpoer on my part.
Anyway upto date a week ago last Saturday, in Sainsbury's I picked up a book called "The Fast Diet" by Dr Michael Mosley & Mimi Spencer which pricked my interest as a means of losing the excess weight. Basically what you do is Fast your body on 2 non consectiutive days, in reality what they are saying is that you reduce your calories to 500 for women and 600 for men on these 2 days.
So at the usual Sunday morning weigh in I was 110.7kG with a BMI of 34.9, i'm 178cm tall and a measurement around the belly button of 45 inches, this is the better reading a trouser measurements are not a good indicator.
