Some American parents consider teaching children to shoot a fun family experience. But 3000 children are accidentally shot each year. This documentary explores the world of child shooters.

I fear it will just be another round of gun bashing.we will not be shown in a good light.more sensationalistic reporting.

Good to see that Embarrassing Bodies is on before the show, we can now spend the hole evening watching a load of silly arses!

This was featured in the Sunday Times a few weeks ago and it does not put shooting in anything other than a sensationalist, all shooters are loonies, light. :(

Well, there you are.  If it was on the telly then it has to be true.  Just like if you had read it in the newspapers.

We (Americans) have many "KIDS" shooting every weekend.! If the "loonies" that are the Socialist GB media have a fit! TOUGH $(OT%%$!

We still have our gun rights! Unlike some folks that beg their government to "allow" them to have a shotgun!

The "kids" killing KIDS is mainly an "inter-city" issue, where the guns as well as the "KIDS" are not actively involved in any organized shooting other than "shooting DRUG!" Until the "inter-city" culture addresses their "cultures" real issues, (No fathers, and unlimited illegitimate birth rate, that means "kids are raising kids!!)

The "children" death rate will not decline. Chicago has several deaths and double digit shooting "victims" every weekend! YET GUNS are OUTLAWED in Chicago and NO ONE is allowed to have "concealed carry" in the state of Illinois!

It isn't "legal" and for "kids" to own a handgun!!! The issue of "youth"(GANG) violence! It is an ethnic, moral, and cultural (yes! The inter-city has different "cultural" values than mainstream USA!) problem..with inter-city drug wars being raised as "kids shooting kids!" Police can tell when someone is "carrying" but are forbidden from stopping and frisking them as that would be "profiling"!! US laws and politically correctness are allowing this inter-city problem to make news!

It's good copy, and allows our liberal politicians ask for more GUN LAWS! BUT we don't have a "youth gun issue", we have a inter-city youth drug war!

Youth shooting sports is sometimes a HIGH SCHOOL sponsored sport! (Trap shooting) With thousands of USA youth shooting every weekend!

IT IS NOT THOSE KIDS shooting each other! Until the media tells the TRUTH! KIDS (those that are under age) cannot legally own a handgun! YET! It is handguns in the hands of thugs (Gangs ...crips and bloods) that are making headlines here!

Don't buy into the hype of "youth shooting youth." It is inter-city gang members for the most part that is the problem! Or deranged parents that have allowed a "kid" that should be locked up (sociopath) that has allowed their "child" access to firearms. Some parents allow deranged sociopath (even when the parent knew they had a sociopath) access to guns . But it is not the youth shooting programs kids that have gone off!

You may not see the "follow up" articles in the UK, but these mass shooting kids (the few that have happened ) should have been institutionalized by their parents long before it came to and issue!

Kids shooting in organized shotgun sports are not an issue!

Most of our "youth" here have long been brought up to respect guns and are taught proper gun safety. Youth shooting sports are a very good thing..

You make some good points Unplugged.

The one thing I will pull you up on is that we do not have to "beg our government to "allow" us to have a shotgun".

In the UK we have a right to own a shotgun(s) which can only be vetoed if the police can show that you are an unfit person (criminal record etc - we do not let felons have firearms over here - it results in fewer deaths) or you have a prohibitive illness.

PhilS, perhaps over stated (begging the government)!! as it does cheese me off when the "media" tries to equate "youth shooting" programs to YOUTH violence.

We are all in this together when it comes to discrediting the media and their propaganda.

Just my opinion, but the only way to discredit the media and take the wind from their sails to focus on another subject is to reduce the frequency and severity of gun related incidents.

This can only be done by improved global control and issue of firearms.

It will be interesting to watch the program tonight, as the brief clips shown over the past week to advertise the documentary look quite worrying. Some of the kids look to be less than 7-8 years old... Of course I am sure these clips are exaggerated to intice people like me to switch on :)

ten minutes into the programme and it is just how I thought it would be.when will someone have the balls to do a constructive and positive documentary on how the british shoot.not keep scaremongering with American sensationalism.

Just to get it straight! It is a large dose of BRITISH "scaremongering" and I would be hard pressed to drag "American" sensationalism into it! As it was ON YOUR telly!

Not ours! And I might add a large dose of ethnocentrism thrown in!!!

We still have ALL of our guns!! (not just shotguns!)

I have to agree 100% with Unplugged. He has hit every nail right on the head.

Here in Britain we have Mothers against Guns, what guns? Yes you have guessed correctly , handguns used in drug violence in major cities of the UK.

It really is about time that the shooting associations became really pro-active with positive publicity about Young Shots .

 .
I think "The Mothers" are happy to be against any guns they can find, including ours.

They are complete pain in the ass gobsh*tes......true story

I watched it but did not for one minute take it as a true representation of American gun ownership or indeed parenting skills. There were obviously certain fathers and mothers with "issues".

Yet again GB none shooting public have been fed a load of nonsense and could now think that "all" our American shooting friends are like that and that it is similar in the GB. Once again I wonder why I pay for a TV license ??

Watched it later on last night, I didn't intend to but I came across it when channel surfing.

The programme followed the experiance of 3 families, 2 of which fell into the pushy parent syndrome who were tring to live their lives through children that had clearly gone past the point of enjoying it to meet the parents expectations.  they were being told by friend and family members that they needed to let the child come to it in their own time.      Think of those  pagent girls in the states and Footballers Dads in the uk.

One thing we should do is listen to what others in the shooting clubs are saying, if an experianced group are saying hang on, this person is out of line.

on a slightly different track:-  it would save a lot of hassle and grief and have stopped the tragedies that have happened over here and we would still be able to own handguns for sport if the authorities overhere had acted on what was being reported to them by the local club.  (I'm a bit bemused why anyone would need a Gatling gun or assault weapon other than to say whoooppeeeee! though).

The other was Tragic, from the explanation of the incident, an accident . Obviously the parents were full of remorse as he was on his own hunting, something he had done before but this time he tripped and fell over. He had gone out with a gun his mother had just bought him, so you can imagine how she's feeling. But it could just have easily been a bycycle or one of those quad/motorcross bikes that parents buy their kids, 99.9999999% of the time it's perfectly safe for them to ride a bike down a quiet lane to their friends or messing about on a motorbike in a field etc but as long as there is not an irresponsible level of risk we should be allowed to enjoy the experiances of life, However,  sometimes something really unexpected happens.
