cheers mike

I have invite back anytime. They shoot every other sat. Cant wait...

So! Game shooting every fortnight then Ian?

My advice would be to get another Cocker or Sprocker for Mrs IPS for her to bring on as the season progresses, possibly rehome a six month old one to save the Puppy issues. Then of course you really do need a Labrador for retrieving, possibly a German Shepherd to look after the house and motor home whilst you are out for the day. Happy Days.

TWO cockers .... gulp.

One is enough

cheers Ian your very kind. Say hello to TD for me as I haven't spoken for a while.
Good to hear that someone is in touch with No1TopDog.  I very much miss his excellent input on here in the past.  I hope he is well and please send him my best wishes not just for Christmas but in all things!
Done. :thumbsu:

Here's a proper gun dog Ian. We think he had a little wee up against the Beretta, he thought it was a fence post.

ha,

you done much with him this season Phil ?

No the first time out this season. Mary just brought Milo along to the shoot to stand back and watch what was going on and to socialise with the other gun's and beater's dogs. He had her off her feet on the first drive, I shot a cock bird that landed in the field behind me and he was off like like a shot (excuse pun) to retrieve it. Thirty kilos of instant canine acceleration, she didn't stand a chance.

Now we're getting straight in the new house, it'll leave more time for training him ready for next season.  He's not gun shy and was very attentive to what was going on. After the final drive he was let off the lead and he did retrieve a bird from a ditch.

cheers Gavin, yes mate I now fully understand that sentiment. For the record we never had pets growing up I didn't even like dogs. Lynn had a cat when we met 18 yrs ago that was my introduction to pets. I got eze in Jan 15 at 6 months old my first ever dog. Now I get it.
So the next thing you need to get is a side by side!!! Beretta do a rather nice one Ian......... ;)

look FWD to reading milos first propper shoot next season then phil

Ah what a lovely post....

I want a gun dog to train...sounds next best thing to shooting and I definitely can't afford to shoot game much

thank you jay.

training em and walking em in the countryside is great fun but watching them working for real is really special.

as for next best thing to shooting, well this time of year its way better than shooting Imo.

Good looking strong dog you've got there Phil and he sounds like he's keen with natural ability if he retrieved a bird form the ditch first time at a shoot.
Thank you, we keep control of his diet so he doesn't get overweight.  We re-homed him in the middle of December last, got him from the breeder when he was 21 months old. He's working stock with 23 Field Trial Champions in his pedigree, but he and we haven't had the training.  He came out on our Christmas shoot last season and retrieved a Woodcock and Pheasant I shot in the woods so he's got some idea of what to do.  It needs harnessing so that he's controlled, rather than him tearing about enjoying himself.

Hi Phil

I think you've been very lucky there as he looks a really well and you have a sensible plan to keep him healthy and going on what you are saying I think the training hopefully will go well and youll both enjoy it but it can be very testing at times if he becomes a little head strong and whistle deaf haha but when it all clicks and you are happy with him and he makes that great retrieve to hand for the first time you'll get the same buzz as ips and never forget it. May you have hours of pleasure together enjoying our great sport and watching him work for you.

Makes me think about getting another dog now hmmmm

" You can never have enough Dogs"

Right Guys, here is a bit of Salopian home spun philosophy, with especially  clayshooters in mind !

'A Dog will love you far more than you love yourself '

Judging by some of the characters that I meet , that is a whole lot of love.

Yep not blaming the dog for thinking a Beretta is a fence post, sometimes when your dog works well its better than shooting {breed  ESP for years ) and when  the dog did better than you, your happy !!!
