Having a received a number of warm welcomes and advice on the forum's 'Welcome' page when I said my wife had bought me a 30 clay 'Have a go' session for my birthday, I thought I should report back how it went yesterday at Southdown.

I hit the first 5 clays straight off on the first novice's stand, much to my astonishment!  The benefits of good instruction, clearly.  We then moved onto a more challenging stand with two clays, one from each side.  This was more difficult as the clays were faster and further away, but I seemed to be doing OK with a few misses; the instructor reckoned I hit 85% in total which felt good.  Despite being right-eye dominant, I think my left eye was sometimes taking over, as I struggled to know which barrel to point at the clay, if that makes sense.  It got a bit easier when I closed my left eye, but then all seemed a bit two-dimensional.  The instructor said this was something he could help with if I took it further with proper lessons.

Anyway, I absolutely loved it, and could have gone on all day.  I'm currently selling an old motorcycles outfit, so when that's done I think I know where the proceeds will be going!

The instructor's name, by the way, was Simon Arbuckle - top bloke.

Get your SGC application in ASAP. Depending where you live it can take upto 6 months to come through in some force areas. And it gets expensive and not very fulfilling to just have 30 clays a time. Believe me I know from experience, ..

Glad to hear you had a great time.

I spent the morning just over the hill at Polowood..........I couldn't hear you but glad you had fun in the sun!

Yup WS are very quick -   3 weeks from application to cert for me.

Where  are you located?

:santa:

Thanks all - will have one proper lesson first I think, then put SGC request in if all goes well.

Simbo - where is Polowood?

Santa - I'm on the coast near Littlehampton. I think Southdown is my nearest ground. Any other good ones around?
