I've given up on the pattern plate to,never seem to be able to hit it.

I bet your behind it. They need more lead than you think.

I seem to prefer 8... I've given up using pattern plate as I'm convinced that they are mis representative due to 3D nature of shot 'ball'.  Someone really needs to develop a serious of cameras to show a 3D shot cloud, that would mean something! (Although face on camera may have tough ride!)

I'm pretty convinced pattern plate shows the realistic pattern that the clay sees. Breaks always mimic what I've seen too. Any 3D effect is nullified by the speed, so in reality it all gets to the clay at the same time.

If a target requires ten feet of lead , and you are giving it  two feet maintained lead the method you are using is 'insufficient lead'

I've been using Eley Select 28g 7.5 shot fibre wads for the past six months without any problems. Recoil seems quite mild and they are easy buy at the shoots I go to. Bought another 2000 this afternoon for £175/1000
