Merry Christmas to all.

Been shooting clays with the help of a mate with a second hand clay trap, shoot mainly game as live on a farm.Been to local clay ground(dove ridge) for clay lessons a few times and enjoyed the lessons.Mate and I thinking about joining and going on a regular basis,so wondering if there is any clay pigeon shooting books out there which could give a insight about clay shooting, have read Michael Hardley Positive Shooting which was ok.Has anyone read any book and thought that was worth reading, please remember not to technical as very new to clay shooting.

you will get better info reading shootclay my friend ?

Books and video are fine and will give you an insight into the world of clay shooting and its ins and outs. Time at the coal face having tuition will reap the rewards. Enjoy the sport, it's great when you get into it.

When clay shooting the go away shots and over head shots are not to bad(90 per cent plus kill rate) due to game shooting for a long time, but crossers are down to 25 per cent.Having lessons become expensive,so looking for any material for learning my mistakes,on the crossers it seams I am spraying and praying.

Cheers for info, looking at couple of video's I have feeling I need to move my feet as standing still and twisting the body is making me shoot low,out tomorrow and practice moving the feet so at kill point I am nice and straight and hopefully on target. Thanks

Yes your front foot should be approximately at the KILL point (in fact I would say, if right handed, that your left foot should be pointing at "1 o'clock" if shooting the 12 on the clock / straight ahead. Make sure you decide the kill point and stand for that. Then twist around to your hold (start) point, where you may actually feel uncomfortable. It doesn't matter, it's all about the kill point. You tube will have this somewhere..

with respect you are an experienced game shooter so just shoot the thing same as you would any quarry. You are in danger of over analysing things.

Disagree mate. The plan is critical with clays. There is little plan with critters..

Thanks Will, been standing ata peg shooting game,so have to think about kill points and feet and trying to hit a moving target takes time to digest. Most of the time ankle deep in mud so feet movement is very restricted with the wellies on.

I think your all disgusting shooting little birds that have done nothing wrong :(

Reared pheasant and partridge are bred to be shot,so long as it is done humanely and with respect.Plus it brings millions of pounds into the countryside and its bloody good fun to be with like minded people
