This just goes to show how much people know on here ,Orston Shooting Ground won the CPSA award of best shooting ground in the UK 2014 ,it was not the CPSA who judged this it was the SHOOTERS WHO VOTED for it .

Tell me something why didn't Westfield win this award ?if it's so good the people who shoot there obviously didn't vote for it.

Deershooter
Deershooter, stop trying to obstanent about everything...I've shot at both Orston and Westfield in the same weekend, they are both top shooting grounds, but comparing them is like comparing apples to oranges!!!
Westfield (like Grange Farm) is an out and out sporting competition ground, only open and set up on competition days, comps not held every weekend and closed midweek (while Steve Lovatt sunbathes) no trap/skeet disaplines are shot at

Westfield and there are no practice rounds/clay mate/plug and play...there are several massive sporting/FITASC comps each year at Westfield. I would describe Westfield as a premier sporting/FITASC competition ground. Great terrain, well looked after inside and out, lovely clubhouse and even the odd good target...

Orston, regular set competition days every weekend, trap/skeet layouts, great car park, the most beautifully manicured ground (I've) shot at, they really do look after and take pride in the place, a clubhouse like you'd expect to see at a private members golf club, dead flat terrain with bunds, targets are excellent but very different style from Westfield, no lack of effort at either in setting targets, open one day midweek, plug n play/clay mate , you can meet your coach there for lessons, so flat and well maintained it must be a breeze for the disabled/less abled to get round. As a visiting competition shooter, I can't fault either ground, they both tick all the boxes on what a sporting ground should/can be. In a shooters poll Orston being more of a all round commercial ground win the 'best ground' poll every time, Westfield is an out n out competition ground, you can only compare Orston and Westfield for what they competition wise, both do it very well, I'm happy to spend my money at either when I'm down that way!!! Orston is an all round Premier ground.

It's no wonder the East Midlands have so many top competition sporting shooters with Grange Farm, Orston, Kibworth, Kegworth, Westfield, ect all within driving distance they are spoiled for choose!!!

Tomorrow I'm off to Ferndale for the first of our league shoots... I know, Ferndale, don't worry I've packed my stab vest.

Then it's a mad 100 mile dash to Gunsite, hoping to make it before 1330.

Shot Manchester (Worsley), first ever club comp, shot a PB of 62. Well chuffed. Thanks Brian Clegg for the instruction last month.... finally paying off :)

Shot some Zombie targets at an indoor gun range with a Glock, an AK47, a pump action shotgun and a couple of other bad tools. Try everything once.

My first ever sport trap today at Southdown, got a 43/100 not fantastic but very different to sporting, going to have to try it again..!!

Nice to see Teepee and Shorlegs today at Gunsite. Enjoyed the targets as always, great venue.

Only 6 clubs in it these day's. South & West Country Sports, Foresters, St Brides, Llandaff and Aberbaiden. It needs a few more clubs in it really. It's a bit of fun to keep me ticking over through the winter months. Did you used to shoot it?

Yes ..  I was involved when there were a lot more teams in it even some from west wales when I shot it for Crynant gun club many moons ago now, Phil did mention it to me when I called in the shop to shoot for south & west country sports so I may just have a crack to get some fun back into the shooting as there was always some good ribbing between the lads of the different clubs. I'll have a chat with you next time we meet ..
