Hi all.

have been shooting for a while (doesn't mean I'm any good) love to smash a few clays.

I'm currently a regular at Spitfire in Stockbridge and have Laines shooting school just down the road from me, but I am soon to be moving house.

I'll be moving to Dorset, around the Horton/Wimborne area. I have looked online to find a local clay sports ground and have noticed that many of them have to be booked in advance? At Spitfire you just arrive and shoot the pay for your clays after.

Would anyone know of anywhere local to Horton where I can just turn up for a spot of clay shooting?

Thanks

Purbeck is the closest. Podimore less than an hour away. Check their websites for opening times.

Welcome!

Purbeck Shooting School is a short drive from Wimborne, and the journey is rural. Have a look at:   http://www.shooting.uk.com They do registered ESP and FITASC once a month each as well as other competitions including an informal "Farmers FITASC", they have covered stands, they do coaching & tuition and they sell cartridges and guns. Most importantly they also do a proper breakfast. They are closed Sunday and Monday.

Just on your doorstep (almost literally) is Pilford Farm, where there is a 40 bird shoot on the second Saturday of each month. It's a small layout, informal, and they also sell cartridges and bacon baps. I love it.

A bit further towards Ringwood you have Somerley, roughly the second Sunday each month, a 50 bird event, again with cartridges and refreshment: http://www.geoffwiltshiregunsmithing.co.uk/Clay-Shoot.html.

And of course past Dorchester you have Southern Counties, recently reopened by its erstwhile proprietor.  As yet there are no registered competitions, but it's open for practice or coaching. http://www.dorsetshootingschool.co.uk  That's got a proper cafe and Sportsman Gun Centre right by should you need cartridges etc.  http://www.sportsmanguncentre.co.uk The cafe and Sportsman are separate businesses.

You will be very near John March in Wimborne:   http://www.johnmarchfirearms.co.uk, and Ian Mulliner is very close:  http://www.mulliners.co.uk

I hope that's enough to be going on with - I hope to run into you at one of the above. If you need to know more please don't hesitate to PM me, or ask here of course
