    £90 a bird from 2022/23 Season

Hearing a few shoots are now asking £90 a bird for a 500 bird day - the rate at which prices have increased over the last few years is nothing short of staggering

    Sportarm new Perazzi ejector springs

Any thoughts on this - £55 for 2 springs, some grease and a small block of wood - not least as I have a pair of MX12’s so would need 2 sets ?. I have had issues with the ejectors especially with the larger fancier game cartridges with larger brass caps and had my springs changed - don’t think...

    COVID-19 and Game season 20/21

After all the energy put in to the steel renewable plastic debate I would be interesting in moving the discussion and to ask for thoughts on the degree to which the “virus suppression” measures now applicable in the U.K. and across the EU will allow the game shoots to viably prepare for the new...

Pattern testing and related ballistic analysis if steel and other non-toxic alternatives

To avoid getting enmeshed in other issues I have started this in part to provide a repository for data/analysis rather than ventilation of opinions which are probably best shared in the existing thread After the voluntary ban for game effective in 5 years announcement I took a look on YouTube...

    Game Fair - Hatfield House

Anyone going - weather forecast is good - thinking of popping along - do people take a gun or just mooch around  perhaps hire a gun if there is not too long a queue on the sporting Digweed line - or is it something you book in advance so you have a precooked slot - or is it all too much hassle...

    Times investigation 17/01/19

3 articles and a leader piece - may get traction albeit it’s in the midst of Brexit meltdown which may reduce the take up - main focus large bag commercial shooting and the disconnect with the food chain public forum so won’t link the articles and won’t feed the negativity simply making folk aware

    Game shooting in France

A lot of mainstream media attention being paid to the shooting of the British vegetarian restauranteur in France whilst mountain biking  Plainly very sad and illustrates the dangers of being out in the countryside in rural France - even more scary than the reports of this shooting are the stats...

Tune up ahead of game season

Had another great session with Ed Solomon’s up at Sporting Targets - I find it helps to clear away a few issues/bad habits that can develop over time and Ed is such a reassuring presence and always seems to know what to say and when - many thanks Ed

Cracking Sim Day over at Highclere Castle today

RBSS put on some of the best Sim days and their acquisition by Purdey doesn’t seem to have made any difference - the catering at the meeeting point was a bit ropey and well below the RBSS standard but Dylan was there and I’m pretty sure words will be had!! The rest of the day was superb in great...

    Best Waterproofs

Festive Greetings folks just been out with the pup and wore my North Face Summit Series waterproofs as it was hammering down - it reminded me that modern kit from mainstream companies that do lots of R&D are generally better than kit from small scale producers  so which manufacturers have...

    First day in the field

Zac had his first day in the field yesterday - he was of course super excited but all went well - he is being trained as a peg dog so we are taking it slowly and he was mainly watching and just had a few staged retrieves which he did solidly to hand - very proud of him

Heading over to a game shoot on Sat and fancy stopping at a clay ground on Friday to do some practice - shoot is not far from Evesham and I am driving from London  i would be interested in suggestions - Ian Coley is a possibility - I like their ground - map suggests the Oxfordshire is en route...

    Positive spin on Game Shooting

Adrian Thornton Berry sent me this - apparently filmed on one of the moors that Dalesport manage  Some of you may be interested to watch a programme that was filmed on one of our managed shoots last Autumn portraying shooting here in the Yorkshire Dales and trying to get a bit of positive PR...

    Eye exams and eye exams

A big thank you to Mr Ed - popped up (well drove for hours there and back in truth - terrible motorways ) for one of his 2 hr consultations which as those of you who have had the pleasure of spending time with Ed will testify can't really be compared with an "eye test"  great service/experience...

    Oil Finish

The first of my matched pair has just come back from the gun smith after English oiling - took a while but I think it was worth it - I know some like the factory lacquer finish but I fancied going down this route  Please excuse the framing - not exactly competition winning photos  ...

Hello from North London (no 2)

I'm also a new member from N London - shoot game during the season and sporting at various places through the year but as of yet just for fun - A1 is closest but tend to go more often to Long Siberia at Bisley, WLSS (had instruction here), RBSS, ALG and Sporting Targets  I'm toying with...
