I concur 12 not 20 for me and I’m little - what William said.   I am interest in your coach’s reason for suggesting 20 for clays.  I’m sure there are people who love them but I can’t remember when I last saw a 20 out on a ground.

He probably has a 20b for sale

12b definitely, just use lighter loads

Thanks again for all the advice. I’ve talked it through with my coach and will go for a 12 g. May opt for 28  inch barrels.

Since not many people shooting 28" for clays Malcolm and I simply can't understand why your coach would recommend them. Of course clays don't know how long the barrels are, but virtually every top clay shooter is using 32s these days as are many of the everyday folk. A good compromise is to go for 30" as said above and, if it matters to you, resale value will be much better then with a 28" gun.
