Shoot with both eyes open?

Almost makes me glad I have only got one, so don't have to worry about this.

And before anyone asks, no it is not the middle of my forehead!

I'm left handed and was originally strong Right master eyed. However, I've found that as I got older the dominance has moved slightly towards the left eye. I always used to shoot both eyes open to pick up the target and then I'd "dim" my right eye. Then I tried a smear of Vaseline over the RH lens, and a spot, but keeping both eyes open. Then I tried both eyes open -  these later methods had varying degrees of success (failure) but all felt awkward and required me to think about my eye and not the target. 

So I've gone full circle and have gone back to my original "dimming the eye" method, but I now concentrate a little more on basic technique, which seems to helped more than piddling about with patches/Vaseline etc.
