 beer, nightclubs and the opposite sex are discovered, I have seen this happen many times over my 30 odd years of involvement in the sport.

This exactly! In my young teen to middle teens I was doing a sport on a high level. I was on under 21 national team. When I was around 17/18 and doing my last years before university (I think you call it A levels?), I came to the conclusion I couldn't be arsed. It was in a sport where I would barely be able to make a living. And then ammount of hours I needed to put in it would cut me out of a lot of social functions. I also had to eat properly and alcohol in very moderate amounts (as in 1 or 2 times a year). Well the choice was very simple
