What does a gun "shooting flat" mean?

I do see some rib, so I suspect that will be about right, but I will give that a try! Thank you.

What does a gun "shooting flat" mean?

Thanks, both people who mentioned this shot half a dozen clays with it.  It just occurred to me afterwards that it was something they both mentioned in passing. The gun has an adjustable comb which I haven't changed from its lowest position as yet. I don't see a lot of rib with the gun mounted...

What does a gun "shooting flat" mean?

A couple of people have mentioned in passing after trying it that my new gun "shoots flat". I didn't think to ask them to elaborate at the time, so what does this mean and is it a good thing?

    4 Months!

Thanks, I have been filling my time waiting with having lessons so I am just dying to get out on my own and get some practice in! I have a pretty fair idea as to what I want in the way of a gun, but fortunately at least a couple of local grounds have guns I can hire now I have got my ticket.

    4 Months!

Finally, 4 months after sending my application in, Kent police have granted my SGC!! There were no complications or particular delays - it just took a while! For those in the same boat of endless waiting my timescale went like this; Application sent                               28th October...

    First gun for a beginner

I only applied for my SGC a couple of weeks ago so I reckon I have a bit of a wait yet! I don't know what Kent Constabulary processing times are like at the moment but I havn't heard anything back from them at all yet.

    First gun for a beginner

Lots of good info and food for thought - thank you gents!

    First gun for a beginner

Pop rivets? On a Cerbera? They. Only used Sikaflex when there weren't any more cable ties in the parts bin!

    First gun for a beginner

Despite the perceived reputation for unreliability, in 7 years of ownership it has only broken down once and that was due to me snapping a driveshaft on track. :-)

    First gun for a beginner

Well I have done a nut and bolt rebuild of the car from the ground up. I had always wanted a kit car - I just didn't realise I would have to turn it into a kit first!  Is there a gun that is held together with cable ties and SikaFlex sealant? (and goes like stink!) I would be right at home with...

    First gun for a beginner

No.... a TVR - hence everything else is on a budget! :)

    First gun for a beginner

Noted! Purely out of curiosity why is that? Poor resale value? Poor build quality? Bad fit? Inaccuracy?

    First gun for a beginner

Should I assume that the concensus is that there is no mileage as a beginner starting further down the budget end of the market in Lanbe, Baikal, Silma territory and then working up as I gain experience. Budget isnt a particular issue, but the more I spend on lessons and shooting the more likely...

    First gun for a beginner

No question of me shooting right handed I am afraid! I may not have shot clays for 30 years but I have put in plenty of years with air rifles. I could no more shoot off the right shoulder than learn to write right handed - and they tried to make me do that once at school! Not a success!

    First gun for a beginner

Strongly left handed and slightly right eye dominant, so not ideal!

    First gun for a beginner

The last time I shot clays, over 30 years ago, I had use of a very pretty but probably wholly unsuitable Damascus barrel W Scott side-by-side game gun. I never hit much with it! Pending grant of my SGC I am considering my first gun purchase an the more research that I do the less I am sure what...

    Hello from Kent

Excellent - thanks! I will bear that in mind once I have got organised with a gun. Good to know there are so many shoots around this neck of the woods.

    Hello from Kent

Eye dominance isn't as fixed as you might think - it can vary with age, fatigue and light conditions, particularly if its not a very strong dominance in the first place. Mine is only a slight bias to the right and in the past used to be left, so a bit of training should help me at least use the...

    Hello from Kent

I suspect that they are all MUCH smaller and faster than I remember! I think a novice lesson or two is in order as it's been close to 30 years since I picked up a shotgun and I need to get myself sorted out as to which way round to shoot. Being (strongly) left handed and (slightly) right eyed I...

    Hello from Kent

Hello, I am Peter from North West Kent. I haven't shot since I was in my late teens when I used to work at a clay shoot in Derbyshire and shot when I could afford it. I surrendered SGC and FAC when I went to Uni and now many years later am just starting to take up shooting again. I will be...
