    "Pair lost"?

Salopian is probebly one the most experienced refs, I have the honour of working with I've only reffed 10 English, 12 British championships and 2 world championships ( ok, 1 1/2 worlds) so do not profess to be as experienced, I have found that if you ask the squad what they prefer to hear...

Do you use the same cartridge for everything?

I always used express HV. And have done for over 20 years at everything , firstly because they were cheap, but still did the business , well I recently had a bit of a dilemma as they have phased them out, so what do I use next... i decided that as there are only a few powder manufacturers in...

    New cart's

I seem to remember, I had a voucher to redeem for S&B cartridges when I bought my Russian purdey, with two sets of barrels ( which I still dust off occasionally and shoot) circa 1980  cost £180.00

    What would you do ?

Jasper you win the prize, he wanted the shells for home loading for pigeon shooting, my thought was,  it was a home load, I asked him if why he didn't keep any of the others he binned?, answer was .. Those cases are crap, at which point he scurried off

    What would you do ?

Hypertherthetical  question If you were reffing a major competion and you watched the shooter load the gun, with two blue cartridges call for the target, miss them both, then eject the shells, into his hand and then put the spent cases  in his pocket, instead of the bin, and then selected...

    The English open at hodnet

I didn't hear that one, I was busy trying not to cock it up anymore, and making sure the milli second they pulled the trigger, the other clay was on its way, embarising enough to push wrong button, certainly didn't want a delay on the second target .  Thers more pressure than most realise ,

He does Paul , and it's fixed 3/4 and full, I think I beat him once, I remember him telling me to savour the moment... Coz it wouldn't happen again.... And it hasn't

Sporting with a trap gun or `vice versa

Hi Martin Plenty of opinion on here regarding that subject.... Nothing wrong with a trap gun for sporting, try a MK 38 miroku grade 5 trap, and spend the remaining 5k on a good holiday, it will be the only gun you ever need..... Tin hat ready

    should i shouldn't i english open

There is the old saying, if it's only for fun "why do we keep a score "  it is possible just to have fun. I suppose I'm very lucky growing up in the sticks and going pigeon shooting long before I ever shot a clays, but I now shoot clays with them same lads I grew up with, we meet up, have...

    should i shouldn't i english open

you should go, the atmosphere will be great , the targets will be good they may take a bit of reading as the terrain is woodland and open scrub, you may be shooting down hill as well as up, and at least 2or 3 of the refs are on this forum, so they will be impeccably polite and courteus ( ok one...

    SxS v OU

iPS There is nothing like the feel, or the smell of linseed on the walnut stock of a fine English sidelock, the beautiful sound of the barrels closing that is a firm "click" when it closes,  a craftsman has spent years learning his trade to produce a hand made gun that has been created to use...
