    Stock Damage Repair

I had a really nasty gouge taken out of the forend of a grade 5 Miroku 20 gauge by a clay , so I feel your pain , your stock is a thousand pound piece of timber ! I took mine to ‘ The WoodWorking Gunsmith’ at Thimbleby Shooting School and it came back indistinguishable from new . So the...

    Sim Day Yorkshire Recommendations

Probably the most civilised sim day I’ve been on ( and have two more booked this year ) is at Kelbrook shooting school . They run it in a slightly different manner so that you’re limited to the cartridges used on a drive , but as long as you’ve got a cartridge , the drive continues . This means...

    Sim Day Yorkshire Recommendations

West Nab Shooting Lodge near Holmfirth is a decent set up . Nice people , good drives , good catering set up and takes individual gun bookings . They have a website with contact details and prices ( which are very reasonable) .

Which felt/fibre wad cartridge for optima and other backbored guns?

One ‘ oddity ‘ about the fixed choke 38 trap gun is that the specification is overbored at 18.7 , but has 2 3/4 chambers , and short forcing cones , as primarily it is a target gun , and in principle would never get used in game ( although you can’t go on a driven pheasant day and not see one )...

    Gun stock specialist wanted

Brian above is a good guy I’ve had several gun stocks worked on by him . The other chap worth speaking to is ‘ ‘ The Woodworking Gunsmith based at Thimbleby shooting grounds , I’ve had work done by him as well . https://www.thewoodworkinggunsmith.co.uk/

    Out of the ordinary Browning

Do the initials on the trigger guard have any meaning to the current owner ? With all the fancy chequering and white line spacing it just screams ‘ USA market ‘

A funny thing happened at the Ground yesterday !

You are 100% correct . On a sim day after Christmas , I arrived feeling under the weather and with ‘ trapped nerve ‘ in my right shoulder . I quit shooting after the first drive I had half a dozen second barrel fail to fires . Simply I wasn’t releasing the trigger . My buddy shot a drive with my...

    Gun for the Mrs ?

Is your part of Yorkshire near enough to nip over to Kelbrook ? They have a good number of rental guns to suit all shapes and sizes , and a decent gunroom refreshingly free from crap . Trying out various brands/ styles is cheaper than making a mistake .

    Short Arms ?

Just a point , the original poster has measuresd from the crook to his distal finger joint and got 13.5 inches , that is a critical measurement, because I’m mucking about in the garage at the moment , I’ve got a tape handy , the same measurement for me is 16.5 inches . I shoot 14 7/8 and 15”...

    Short Arms ?

Where abouts in the country are you John ? Then someone could make a suggestion . If you also look on GunTrader you can use the filters to find guns with different stock lengths .

    Short Arms ?

The old rough guide to stock length was to hold the gun with the butt in the crook of your arm and your finger should rest on the trigger nicely , but that is a very rough guide . New over and under guns will have a length of pull ( the distance mid trigger to mid butt ) typically in the range...

    MK38 32" vs Ultra XS 30"

I’ve put some Teague made flush Invector Plus titanium into my MK11 game gun as I thought it felt muzzle heavy with the standard Browning steel units . I’ve got the long Teagues in a converted 38 trap in 32” . I also like the fact that the trap gun doesn’t have the swage at the muzzles that...

    MK38 32" vs Ultra XS 30"

The Miroku , is it a 30” Teague sporter , or is it a 30” Teague converted trap gun ? as there is a world of difference . If it’s the trap gun the barrels are lighter , the gun will have a higher stock as standard , and have no palm swell . 38 fixed choke trap barrels and MK60 fixed choke...

Shooting glasses for spec wearers ?

I think that the purple on its own would be preferable . I have purple and then a pair of yellow to dark photochromic. The rational behind that is purple 80% of the time and to be honest the yellow / photo only get an odd outing plus using on game shoots which might start misty and I might end...

    Was this your K80 ?

With ref to the steel type mine had it stamped on the barrels under the woodwork , but it’s not a given it will always be stamped . After about 15 years of hammering thousands of rounds through the gun , I actually drove to Wrexham arrived in the morning and had them look at my gun whilst I was...
