Good question - honestly, I had never given it much thought.
For me - this goes back to my "the internet is for everybody" principle, information deserves to be free and good art (whether written or pictorial or otherwise) should be shared for the good of the sport. So for me, I'd like everything to be shareable.
On the flip side - I know that some members invest a lot of time and energy into creating content (some are professional), and they are the least likely to want to share for free - I'm also OK with that, if I thought I could earn money from my crap snaps, then I might try - but I'm a snapper not a photographer.
I would need to do some research about whether a blanket license can be applied to uploaded stuff.
Hi Matt,
Just a suggestion, but you may want to check the terms of the board's sign-up agreement which every member has to agree to when joining the forum, and you may find that once posted on here, any content, unless expressly warranted at being under copyright to a named person/organisation, becomes yours as owner of the forum.
The bottom line is, if the poster doesn't want their work on the Web, then don't post it on the Web, unless the work is watermarked with their name and copyright.
Other, i.e. previous published,
written content, e.g. an article from a magazine or paper which has been lifted from the web, comes under the '
Fair Use' terms which, in summary, means that as long as you only use/quote, for example, the opening paragraph or first few lines of an article, and then submit the URL to that article(s) so that others may click on it and read it in full, then you're covered for Fair Use, as you're not quoting the entire article without citing copyright to its author.
