Removing Gun Oil

I have removed the stock from a second hand Miroku and noticed what seems to be gun oil on the the front edge that meets the action. Any advice on drawing out the oil without having to re-finish the stock?

I belive cat litter draws it out of you bury the stock in it.

Heat it over the gas or with a hair dryer, then wipe off what comes out
