World Sporting (+ FITASC, SportTrap and Prelims) - Open Thread

one complaint i would have and its only small is the fact i had to fork out 64 quid at ian coleys for eleys. i rang alison 2 weeks prior to the shoot to order shells like it said on the website, she said she would ring me back and take my order when she was ready. i never heard from her. also i...

well i must say im well chuffed to have won A class on 171. although to be perfectly honest i really did miss at least 5 on each course which i was perfecctly capable of shooting comfortably. ah well cant be to greedy. its a good achievement for me as i dont really do alot of shooting anymore...

32" auto ed!!! frig you cud near break some clays with that without pulling the trigger. i had a 391 black gold 30" sporter with gold ducks on the action one time and i regret i got rid of it! it was a great piece of kit. but i cant imagine a 32", never even seen one. im sure it suits you ok though

Which form of live shooting do you find the most exiting? 1-3

1 bolted rabbits with ferrets or dogs first,2 pigeons either decoyed or coming to roost, 3 woodcock, duck flighting at night is very close to the woodcock though

    Right Then...

last nights spat escalated very quickly really, and sadly was a stark reminder of claysportings dark days. as glen said game shooting is an emotive subject and people have very contrasting opinions, i will never agree with the opinions of nic and gp on the high pheasant thread, but likewise they...

    high pheasants which cartridge

i would love to witness the amazing feats of shooting on these "proper shoots". i would say the majority are wounded. i also think it is a little bit irresponsible to want to let game birds get as high as possible. a shotgun isnt a rocket launcher, i think you guys have forgotten that, no matter...

Nigel said: i didnt say it went to the bin, it went to the dog. and the other one was nowhere near as bad cos it was quartering of you and wasnt hit right in the middle of pattern. the one you wrecked was turning across you and opened his whole body to you and you middled it in the chest

Outlaw said: this seems to be some sort of obsession of yours? you seem to have had run ins with alot of people on the previous site, i wonder why. anyway i was hunter on the previous site, and i introduced myself when i arrived here, like everyone else did, so i dont need to do it again

    high pheasants which cartridge

alot of good points there nige, oh aye and i plucked that woodcock last year and the size of the holes the pellets left meant it was only fit for the dogs. woodcock are very easy knocked down and as you say most are shoot at close ranges. were they 5s or 6s you used that day?

    high pheasants which cartridge

thats a whole different matter glen. shoot at whatever ranges you feel comfortable with, all im saying is i think number 4 or even 5 shot is excessive for pheasants. anyone who has ever plucked one will know they dont really have a thick layer of feathers to penetrate, a duck is thicker with all...

    high pheasants which cartridge

to be honest i wouldnt fancy cleaning any of these pheasants for the table if they were shot with any of the shells mentioned here! surely a 4 is just to much overkill for a pheasant! and henry i would guess your three visible hits on this bird were in the birds nether regions and not in the...

    Maxi Rabbits

GlenPresley said: no i did not eat it glen, i left it for the foxes. we are very careful when gutting a rabbit as well to check the liver for white spots, any sign of this and we just trow them ones to the ferrets, they arent so fussy!

    CPSA Classifications

big jim said: dunno if i would agree with that jim to be honest. for me its about finding a happy medium. those of a lesser ability cannot be punished during a round of sporting clays in my opinion, but then again the best have to be tested, its finding the right balance.

    Maxi Rabbits

i was able to jump out of my car on our lane the other week and lift a bunny that was so badly dosed with myxi it was bumping into the hedge blind as a bat. i put it out of its misery. i hate the disease, i love rabbit shooting over ferrets, but sadly that is almost a thing of the past over here...
