For those who are saying why bother entering George has it in the bag does that mean that lower league football clubs should not enter the FA Cup - no of course not, it about the dream the fact that a small chance does exist, no matter how remote that is. I shot it, too early this morning, did...

Blimey, I am scared now. I am doing it first thing in the morning and usually count myself lucky to hit 50% on my local shoots. I think I could be the first person to blank the whole challenge.

Ahhah - I have worked it out - they must all be mini clays and the tower is only 50ft tall.  I will go with the approach of shooting threads and no leeed.  I will let you know how I get on.

Thanks Matt - there was me thinking I would have to break out the extra full and the binoculars and invest in some 5 shot.  I think my approach will be pray and spray hoping to not be dead last on the leaderboard.

I am having a bash on Saturday.  Going to be a baptism of fire as I am pretty pants on driven.  Anyone got any tips?  I assume tight chokes and plenty of lead?

    Maps,

As a 'Map Man' I despair at some of these, interesting nonetheless though, so thank you.

So to really confuse things - fore end in palm of hand or resting on your fingers?

What is your Clay Shooting highlight of 2013?

For me it is a selfish one - the massive buzz from my first go at clay shooting due to a Groupon deal. After my first shot (and kill) I knew I would be continuing on. Like heroin, I don't think you can ever beat that first hit, but we still keep trying.

    2014 plans...

The thought has crossed my mind many a time when I have blanked a stand of crossers, but I have recently brought some neoprene wellies which I want use out of.

    2014 plans...

Seeing as I cannot hit a barn door (unless it is going away) I am going to work out WHERE I am missing, then user that to work out WHY I am missing, then crucially HOW to stop missing.  Then I shall put it all into practice and be brilliant.  Failing that I shall just keep shooting thin air and...

Can my week get any worse :(

Good news on the Cat - but more importantly, how is the carpet?

Can my week get any worse :(

I am OK - the payoff is great :gamer:   and hopefully I will pick something up in the New Year.  Hopefully the cat will turn up - ours used to go off hunting for days on end, but normally turned up eventually.  The carpet on the other hand - now that is serious.

Can my week get any worse :(

Sian and Teepee - if it is any help to make you feel better, I am being made redundant at the end of the year.  I still count myself lucky, others are suffering from failing health - now that is an issue.

    Heartbreaking

Sounds like someone with shooting knowledge may be responsible.  Mindless thugs would not know to cut the cables or go equipped to cut them unless they were stealing copper.  I think the club have upset a shooter.  Whatever the cause it is a horrible thing to do.

    Bore snake, does it wash?

I put mine in a bottle with warm water and washing up powder.  Then I shake it like a Martini.  Comes up good as new and does not get me shouted at by the wife for making the washing machine smell.

Mel Sykes in the Sunday Express today

If we take the Olympic results (as that is all the public really care about) we are not the best in the world.  I strongly believe in the power of results.  Results will drive coverage and publicity and hence participation.  Coverage and publicity will help educate the population too.  However I...

    fast or slow

I gave myself a shock (literally) with one of these when my wife was using it during labour - she got a bit 'het up' and demanded it be taken off her, so I grabbed the electrodes and pulled them off at the same time she managed to wack it up to '11' in frustration. I thought childbirth was...

Mel Sykes in the Sunday Express today

Without trying to come across as snobbish - I don't think the tabloid press would attract many new shooters anyway.  Gold medals get plenty of press, if we are successful and regularly get plenty of these then the sport will expand.  Look at cycling - you cannot move on the roads nowadays with...

Mel Sykes in the Sunday Express today

I am one of the 'told you so' people.  How many people do you think have taken up Clay Shooting due to Ms Sykes and how many due to real achievers such as Peter Wilson, Richard Faults etc?  I would bet a hefty amount that the later would win by miles.  As I have stated before I would have much...
