Hi guys. I was just wondering is there any way to tell the difference between a Browning 425 Grade 1 Game and 425 Grade 1 Sporter?

I'm in for a mint 425 Grade 1 32" Multi Choke. Extremely well priced. Doesn't feel light nor does it feel overly heavy, one might say it feels just right! The balance really surprised me, it feels extremely well ballanced and swings just beautifully (as a "beretta" man I felt as though I was cheating). It had a white front and middle bead, I didn't bring my vernier calipers with me to measure the width of the rib but it does have an adjustable trigger. I remember a friend of mine's 525 Hunter was extrememly barrel heavy but this certainly wasn't.

Thanks guys.

Hi, what width rib does it have? a 425 sporter would have a 10mm/3/8th rib, the game could be narrower?  it should weigh in at

7 1/2lb or so, I can't say that I've seen a 32" game 425.

As said, the game version has, I think a 6mm rib and I think a maximum of 30" barrels. I know a man who will probably have a 425 catalogue, so watch this space,................as they say !

Thanks guys, I didn't think to measure the rib at the time but I don't remember it being awfully different from what I already shoot which would suggest that it may well have been a 10mm rib. I appreciate the responses, a catalogue would be a great help. Cheers guys.

If it fits and feels as good as you say, who cares whether it's a sporter or game!

I don't think the Browning game models have adjustable triggers or the mid bead?

Sorry for the late reply, but I have the manual that came with my s/h 425 I bought last year.

The book lists 6 different models with several variants of each - 2 x Hunting, 2 x Hunter, 3 x Sporting, 3 x Sporter, 1 x Skeet & 2 x Trap.

As a basic difference, both Hunting and Hunter models should have nickel silver front sights, with no intermediate bead, on a 6mm rib. All other models have the white front bead & white intermediate (except the Skeet, which only has the white front bead) on a 10mm rib.

The 32"/810mm barrel length was only available on three models: Sporting, Sporter & Trap.

Hope this helps.

Jonathan
