I don't accept that there should be a degree of head lifting on a driven bird.

I prefer to do it correctly .

yes but in reality does the body posture (for some maybe) not force the head to at least slacken on the comb thus raising poi (oh heck I have done it now.....note to self never mention poi)

Seeing that spaniel that appears to be tethered to the gunslip, reminded me of an incident that happened many years ago when picking up on the estate of a certain 'Lord' (long deceased). He had tethered his spaniel, known to be a bit wild, to his cartridge bag on the first drive of the day.  Before a shot had been fired, a Hare ran back along the line of guns, closely followed by a certain yapping spaniel, spreading the contents of a 100 round cartridge bag as it went. I thought that I could swear, but I realised that I was not even in the same league.   :lol:

I think,  that YOU,  are overthinking this  ?

Using my S x S I do not recall my head EVER leaving the stock  !

heres a video off the youtube  HOW TO SHOOT OVERHEAD TAEGETS  where the coach recommends lifting your head off the stock while waiting ffor the clay to appear

seems to work for him, I prefer to not mount the gun if I cant see the clay with the gun mounted them mount and shoot




 
I shot a vicious overhead away at Westfield yesterday and agree with the CPSA video above. There would not have been time to have mounted the gun..

 
The overhead on Stand 8 at the last Churchill Registered shoot looked like three times the lead underneath to that one (although it took me to the last pair to actually hit one).

I have never met Ben in person, I have only ever heard the rumours that surround him and his career. But I must say that I think he comes across very well on film, he appears to be very knowledgeable and provides a very in depth approach to coaching. Off the back of his latest YouTube films I have been tempted to purchase his method star DVD. Only think stopping me is if his techniques clash with how i like to shoot. For the money though could be worth a gamble.
