Posting a stock

Hello everyone. Bit of a random question, but has anyone had to post the stock and fore end and if so did you find a specific packing box that was suitable?

Between amazon, the post office and stationary shops there are plenty different parcel boxes that are available. But I'm trying to skip a bit of the experimentation if someone has already found something that works.

I've had a stock and fore end sent to me in a specific box that was sent from Neville Guns. Give them a call to find out if they can send you one.

Not had a problem in the past and yes there are manufacturers box but the ones I have seen were no more than cardboard with a divider.

With the stock, a (wine) cork where the receiver end would be protects from side impact on the delicate parts and then pack around that carefully.

Unless there was absolutely no other option I’d never post a stock. Over the years I’ve heard so many horror stories of woodwork being damaged or lost by careless handlers. Not only are you left with the consequences but it’s often difficult to find who’s responsible and willing to compensate for the loss or damage caused.

If your transaction’s a UK one I’d certainly recommend delivering/collecting it yourself. You’ll be saving yourself so much hassle if things go wrong.

RM and others do an insurance on posting items, not sure why so many have horror stories if posted correctly. Maybe I and others have been lucky

Lets face it most gun arrive at importers/dealers via being posted

Take a couple of outer cartons from 250 slabs . Remove one end  and it’s flap totally from each and slide together one inside the other . Use more slab card inside to make a double wall . Wrap the woodwork in bubble wrap etc . Mummify the  box with brown packing tape . 
 

Get a real idea of the cost of replacement , as the insurance cost  for the parcel will jump considerably when you get to thousands  , even to the point where taking  the stock yourself might be viable ,

Thanks Jan. Unfortunately it's 460 miles and 7 and a half hours drive each way. With maybe a week's delay before its needing to be collected again. Posting is a necessity.

I'll be very careful when packing and yes, there's insurance up to £2500 so I'm comfortable that it's protected.

I'll see what specialist packing boxes are available.
