Shoe Advice

Hi all

during the winter I shoot (clay grounds and sim days), in a decent pair of hiking boots - I like the grip and ankle stability. 

We’ve got a couple of sim days booked over the summer months and the thought of a day in heavy boots isn’t very appealing, but normal trainers won’t look the part and will also possibly not be supportive/secure enough. 
 

Any tips?

I have a Rockport shoe, which is great for shooting on rough ground, but not a trainer. See Skechers range. Also found the above.

If you want ankle stability just get a lighter pair of hiking boots that will do summer and winter shooting

Redbacks ,  Aussie dealer / chukka boot .  Assuming you’re not going mud plugging . Smart enough to shoot  formally in then go to the pub , nice and stable for clays , more comfortable than DMs . Everyday wearable and the more you wear the more comfortable  they get .

I have the Peter Storm Caldbeck boot from go outdoors or millets. Very nice and comfy boot, perfect for what you're after.

Correct footwear’s worth talking about, it’s often ignored.

I’ve no idea what a ‘sim day’ is (must be a hedgie term) but I always wear flat soled shoes as they offer stability and comfort. If it’s wet I may occasionally wear something like this:

but generally it’s training shoes, you can’t beat them. As others have said, Skechers are good.

Generally any mid-height walking boot will tick the box - some good suggestions above.

Personally, Merrells are a great choice but if you want something more conventional try "Brasher Men's Country Traveller Walking Boots" (type in Amazon) are a smarter alternative - I have three pairs !!!!

"Nah!!" That's not flawed, it's us 'trappies' that are flawed. 

Need to take Jan to a decent Sporting shoot. It’s more like this: And I was wearing trainers  

Most of the time I wear Adidas Terrex GTX (low). They are stable, waterproof and lightweight. A puddle or wet grass is not a problem.

If you need more ankle stability the mid version might be an option:

Meindl and Lowa also have a lot of good shoes, I do not know how they are available in the UK.

I live in aldi walking boots, £19.99 a pair and last me about 2 years, what's not to like

Anything with a slightly raised heal would be the choice of all lost all top shots. I’m Olympic trap weight lifting shoes are very popular amongst elite athletes. 
 

for sporting any trainer or shoes that lifts the heal is perfect. 
 

brogues are great for a sim day. 

Amblers Chelmsford (non safety) dealer boots. Excellent for all seasons.

Appreciate the offer but I’ll politely decline. For one thing, I don’t have the necessary wardrobe for a sporting shoot.

You’re prettier than I imagined Jan. 

I was a big Merrell fan, must have bought 10+ pairs, as the popularity increased along with the price the quality went the other way - disappointing.

I then discovered that Berghaus do lightweight, Goretex hiking boots called 'Trek' and they are available in half sizes too - brilliant.
