The CompanyA privately-owned group of companies, consisting of; Westley Richards & Co Ltd, a manufacturer of bespoke rifles and shotguns; Westley Engineering Ltd, a manufacturer of pressed and machined components for many industries including parts for the shotguns and rifles; and Teague Precision Chokes Ltd, a manufacturer of aftermarket accessories for the shooting industry.The RoleThis design engineer position is an exciting role which allows you to take the lead in the design and manufacture of some of the finest bespoke guns in the world. Based in our modern manufacturing facility a mile from Birmingham City Centre and the M6 Motorway, and working for a growing engineering business with TS16949, AS9100 and ISO9001 quality certification which has recently been investing in new CNC machinery.Working between the two companies you will be solely responsible for creating, maintaining, and developing the drawings for the majority of parts which go into building our shotguns and rifles.On the design side, you will be responsible for keeping the 3D CAD models up to date, and working with the gunmakers to establish changes and improvements on the parts to allow them to build the guns easier and more efficiently. In addition complete design work on a new model Over and Under gun to be introduced by the company will be part of the role.Whilst on the manufacturing side, along with our machinists, you will be responsible for producing CAM programmes for multi-axis CNC milling machines, EDM and Wire EDM enabling parts to be produced accurately and efficiently.The role requires you to get involved and build an understanding of gun parts, and how they are machined to be able to create the designs, and improve upon them.There is also the opportunity to be involved in the design of press tools for our press shop, which supply into industries including aerospace and automotive.Person Specification- Experience of using SolidWorks and Edgecam in a CNC machining environment.- Knowledge and interest in guns would be advantageous, as would experience using CNC machines.- A proactive forward-thinking person who will suggest improvements to both the design drawings and CAM programmes when necessary.- Good communication skills to be able to exchange information and work along-side the gunmakers and engineers.- A keen interest in keeping up-to-date with the latest technologies and improvements in the industry.- Candidates may be asked to complete a psychometric test upon application.Remuneration- £35,000 p.a. or commensurate with experience.- 25 Days Annual Leave plus Bank Holiday’s- Company Pension- On-site parking- Hours 7am – 4pm Monday-Thursday, 7am-12pm on Friday’
