    First Gun

I took up clay shooting earlier this year and bought a cheap Rizzini to get me going. £145 and seems to work fine. I look forward to getting something nice when I have progressed a bit (😬). Like the feel of Berettas and the 692 black looks tasty. I’m enjoying the anticipation!

Recommendation for shooting coach north / north west London

Thanks Ehb, you put a lot of effort into that response which is much appreciated.  Les and Fred, sorry to say my acquisition is nothing exciting, just an old Rizzini 28” sporter purchased from Chris Potter for £145 (they somewhat reluctantly gave me a 3 month warranty!!!)... that said I am very...

Recommendation for shooting coach north / north west London

Thanks to all of you who kindly took the time to respond and offer advice. Had an excellent morning with Will Hewland at EJ Churchill's ground and learnt loads in a really good 2 hour lesson. Feel like that I at least know something about the basics now and have some reference points to practice...

FlyingTrotter, Jon1, many thanks to you both for the detailed responses; really helpful advice all around and exactly what I was after. Cheers

Recommendation for shooting coach north / north west London

Dear All, thanks for comments, all very helpful. In answer to Les’ question, I had 5 lessons over about 15 months (A bit disjointed due to lockdown). All lessons done with guns provided by the club.  I appreciate the comment about taking my time; no sport has ever come naturally to me and I...

Thanks Skeet, much appreciated. I will check them out. No budget in mind just yet ... need to find out the going rate. Obviously more important to find a good instructor rather than the cheapest one.

    New guy here.

Just started myself and bought a (very) well used Rizzini 12g sporter from Chris Potter for £145. Seems to do the job fine for not a lot of £. No huge loss if it dies but gives me low cost way to work out what I do want in a gun.

Recommendation for shooting coach north / north west London

Well, just purchased my first gun and despite having had a few lessons at a certain North London ground, realise that I can’t hit a barn door when I go out by myself.  No doubt this is mostly down to my own limitations, but I think that the lessons I’ve had so far haven’t been great, frankly...

Thanks Bugsey. Actually the ground where I took lessons (A1 in Barnet) recommended Park Street guns, so I’ll be checking them out in the New Year.

Seemed to me that I need to support and guide the Browning but feel like I am holding the Beretta... this could of course just be me talking gibberish after a Thursday skinfull

Thanks again for the pointers. Appreciate that comment about actual price v asking price (taking into account cash purchase), and the figure paid by Fred for the 686E. I would like a 686 'sporter' in good nick .... if anyone thinking of off-loading one please get in contact. That said ... would...

Luke, thanks for your advice.   Had a trip out to EJ Churchill and tried a few guns. Liked the feeling of the Beretta 686 but the only used one they had in stock was fairly beaten up including  a dent to the rib, and quite a ‘loose’ action.  I’m sure it would be perfectly fine to use but ‘day...

A big thanks to you all for those really helpful responses - will save me a great deal of wasted time. That comment about one gun becoming many gave me a good laugh .... fishing is my other distraction and it takes every ounce of self discipline to stop the rod quiver from growing! Of course...

Hello Forum Members My first post. Just getting into clay pigeon shooting and looking to purchase my first gun.   I would be grateful for any advice on gun shops within a couple of hours drive of North London where I could see a good selection of used guns and and get ‘fitted’. Budget IRO...
