The problem with the Miroku action in nice weather.

I'm obviously a traditionalist!  My only shooting until a couple of years ago was rough shooting / game shooting. Not got a problem with the over the shoulder carry, but I only use it to avoid getting my barrels plugged. Incidentally, you'll also never see me walk off a stand and around the...

The problem with the Miroku action in nice weather.

. that's the settee... I don't think I've got any varicose veins yet (goes off to check....) I do rest it on my foot when waiting quite often. Oh well, it'll be cold and wet out soon!

The problem with the Miroku action in nice weather.

Yes, carrying it over my arm, where the bottom of the action opens inwards it was evidently digging in. Looks paler in the picture too! Generally the only time it goes over my shoulder is when I have to traverse deep mud when game shooting. I usually end up with a slight bruise after a whole...

The problem with the Miroku action in nice weather.

Shooting in a t shirt in the sun this morning, it now looks like I've been self harming!  :???: This over an hour after finishing.

Eye Dominance - mine seems to change very regularly?

I could have written the very same post! I have instinctively always closed my left eye when shooting - which means I struggle on straight on driven birds given that I can't see them - and started trying to shoot both eyes open back in Dec, after a guy I met at a Sunday shoot (who wiped the...

    Taking a 'caddy' with you?

My 5 year old daughter does it for me sometimes.  (With her bright pink ear defenders). All part of getting new people into the sport I would have thought.

Gun Show Kenilworth - Do they have a try-out area?

Father and I did similar this year, bought a little 9mm garden gun, whilst looking for ammo later stumbled across the website where it was £30 cheaper. We're still happy with it because its in really good nick but I'll admit it takes the shine off a little! The way I try to look at it is at...

    Snap caps

My plastic ones split around the lip, so one got stuck under the ejector  (took a bit of fiddling to get that out) so I haven't bothered for a while. My father bought some alloy ones to avoid the same problem. I have no problem with people using them or not but will suggest this: Only use...

    Cartridge Shelf Life?

A few years ago just after we moved house I gathered up all my fathers odd cartridges, that had ended up languishing in drawers, in ancient barbours etc. Some of them were probably 20 years old. I used them up game shooting. Not one failed to go bang. My grandfather is a cartridge collector...

    Clear lenses

You're not. I have to make sure I always have my sunglasses with me when out and about. One time I let home in the piddling rain, which eventually cleared to glorious sun and clear skies. I was squinting so much my head hurt, and squished up my contacts, which was bloody uncomfortable to say...

    Unannounced visits from the police?

No problem here. As I understand it from my Dad and Grandfather, this used to be done in 'the good old days' when everyone knew the village bobby. They also knew someone who lost his guns on one such visit because his wife had access to the keys.

    worst score

Hmm three weeks ago I produced a stunning 18/50 at my local, on the interclub competition. So my score is on the internet for all to see :banghead:    I know I was somewhat stressed and my mind was not on the job at hand. Next time out, they'd only moved one of the stands around, and I hit a...

    Shooting older mans game?

Disposable income/priorities I think. On our small game shoot I'm the youngest at 32 by around 15 years. (the next youngest has 18/19 yr old children) Been part of that for about 7 years now. Hopefully my daughter is going to come to the first day (being half term) for the first time. She's 5...

Which Barrel do you fire first?

The front trigger, then the back one. Lower barrel, Upper barrel. Last time I tried using the full choke first for something a bit rangey I then bungled getting onto the front trigger for the second bird. Now I just let muscle memory do its thing and don't even think about the chokes.

    Gun Cleaning-How Often?

Me, as soon as possible if its been rained on, of course. Otherwise, when I think I ought to! About once a month I reckon, which works out at 200-250 rounds or so. More often than I clean the car anyway, which has been twice this year, about 30k miles

    express HV

I'm on my third slab of these (24g fibre). Decided to give them a go after reading Mike Yardleys website. They've broken anything I've come across provided I point in the right direction, and after 100 there is not a mark on my shoulder. Think I'll pick up a full thousand next.

    hull superfast

Sorry haven't replied sooner, internet has been off! I get them from Mole Valley, but they don't stock them in Bridgwater branch for some reason. I work down in South Molton so I get them from the South Molton store. It was my first time there. If they hadn't allowed me to use my own I'd have...
