Perhaps - but for the sport to survive, it needs new blood.  As if finances aren't stretched enough for youngsters these days, they'll think two or three times before taking up this sport.

"In line with other manufacturers" sounds like code for price fixing to me. All they are doing is slowly killing the sport.

That is good to hear!  I'm just looking at it from the medium to long term perspective.  Perhaps a move to steel shot may keep prices at bay if lead prices are an issue.  They seem to be the main excuse for raising prices (and never lowering them when lead goes down).

Pretty soon, the cartridge manufacturers will be pricing themselves out of the market.  Fewer people will be shooting as often, and new shooters will just not take up the sport.  Sad times.

A bit suspect if they all increase prices at the same time.  There is a lot of competition in the cartridge market - or so we think.  Is there a cartel? If it is supply and demand, there could well be a impetus to produce components here.

My understanding is that you need to go up two shot sizes to be the rough equivalent of lead.   So if using a 7/8 shot, you need to go to a 5/6 shot size.   Of course, that means fewer pellets - so perhaps a longer 3" shell with 24g of 5/6 shot will compensate.  There may be a need to increase...

Any issues with barrel damage/scratching?  I don't suppose a fibre wad works with steel does it?

It looks like the drum roll for banning lead is getting louder by the day. Steel seems to be the best viable alternative- and as a bonus iron is cheaper than lead so the price of cartridges should come down. Does anyone have any experience with it?

I think many RFD's are missing a trick here.  Take pre-paid orders at an extraordinarily good price.  Make your order with the vendor - 30 days (or see if you can get an additional discount for cash, as it is paid up front).  Do this quarterly in a sort of 'cartridge club'.  Minimum order 1000...
