    White Pheasant

Some years ago on a shoot we had finished the drive and waiting to be directed to the next stand. My dog, a Labrador, walked over to nearby clump of tall grass and 'pointed' at something therein. I joined him and saw there was a white pheasant hiding in the grass. I let it be because shoot rules...

Best semi auto for sporting clays

The vast majority of my 30 odd years of clay shooting was done with Beretta semi-autos. They were reliable and only suffered two failures in that time. One was a design fault that meant the cartridge lifter was twisted and didn't feed the second cartridge properly. This was curable by twisting...

Should we turn the clock back to get more people shooting?

Do you really think that if lead was banned and replaced by steel the price of cartridges would come down? Vic.

    Skeet Gun,

I have seen quite successful skeet shooters use a trap gun for casual skeet shooting so initially that is what I would do. See if you like skeet first before spending more money. Vic.

    Ear muffs

I always used muffs where the lower part of the muff was recessed to make room for the stock when the gun was mounted. Sorry I can't remember the name but I think Beretta do some. Vic.

Beware of Thieves at your club or shooting ground

'Straw Baler' clay clubs are not all places to avoid. The one I was a committee member of for many years has been going for about forty years and always had three CPSA qualified safety officers to hand.  Experienced shooters behaving dangerously were given one warning and a further offence...

Beware of Thieves at your club or shooting ground

A small self contained club shoot I was on the committee of some years ago used to hold occasional open sporting shoots. At one of these an elderly local shooter who we only ever saw at these shoots arrived at a stand I was buttoning and scoring on. He was the only shooter there at the time.. He...

which chokes are you currently using in 2021 ?

Were I to take up shooting again I would buy a nice looking Browning Liege I saw advertised in Pigeonwatch with 26" barrels choked imp cyl & imp cyl which to me means 5thou of choke. I shoot sporting and a bit of skeet and used to do reasonably well at ESP with  an imp cyl in an auto.  I...

    Stolen Shotgun

When attending our burglary some years ago the policemen advised us to get an alarm fitted from the proceeds of the insurance claim which we did. My guns were in a cabinet in a wardrobe behind clothing and were untouched. They also said that one of the best defences against burglary was careless...
