Thanks for all the replies -  it seems my mate will have to wait. Assuming I get my certificate back in time (mid December);  Glos have assured me that that is the case, I will chase them up for him.

A pal of mine applied for a new Shotgun Certificate a month ago and has just had a letter back from our local (Glos) Firearms team saying that at present they are NOT processing new applications ! Are other counties doing the same thing and is this legal ? I guess I should take it up with...

There is an interesting article in the latest issue of Clay Shooting about a guy who allegedly needs a stock with lots of cast. He ended up going to MGS and getting them to make him a totally new stock.

I tried a Blaser F3 at a Coley open day a couple of years ago. I really liked it. They set me up a Vantage stock with standard sporting barrels -  to give me a high comb and a flat rib. Full raised ribs don't really work for me as they tend to make the gun too heavy for my taste.

I have just seen that Coley's (my local ground) opens today for pre-booked practice. I shot my best ever scores just before lockdown -  so it will be interesting to see how things have changed over the interim period. I will report back; if it isn't too humiliating...…..

When you say 'true' choke measurements I assume you mean: 3/8 is 15 thou constriction and 3/4 is 30 thou  as compared to the nominal bore etc etc ??

I acquired a 28 bore a few months ago and because I will be shooting very light loads (up to 21g) I tried comparative testing of various cartridges on a home made pattern plate. Part of the reason for this exercise was the dearth of concrete info on what 28 bore barrels/loads actually do down...

I met somebody last week who shoots a 20 bore for game and glorifies in the kudos of not using a 12 bore. Then he told me he shoots 34g shells !!

A bit late to the party; when I shot a 20 gauge for game, the best cartridge that I found by far was Hull High Pheasant 25 gram. I tried comparisons with various 28 gram loads and even Sterling 30g and all were nowhere near as effective. Slightly surprising, but true thru' my gun (Guerini). 

As a serious fisherman I would take issue with your assertion that the lead free alternatives are 'not suitable'. I use them all the time and they are fine. And yes I am old enough to remember real lead weights. I recall a thread about lead shot on this site recently that ran to many pages - so...
