As previously mentioned, it all depends upon what classes as a newbie . As a novice I would say far more important things to consider prior to choke choice . Sporting just stick quarter and half in , that will be sufficient for everything. Focus on footwork , stance , gun fit hold and kill...

On the way up from Preston there Crabtree clay shoot , just off J36 M6 ,wed and saturdays only , then just over the border into Scotland , Westlands near Annan every day . Thats it for places en route on way up . There is a good shoot at Dunkeld but this may be too far off course ? Heading back...

What's Westlands like in winter Mike ? Only been in summer and thought great but not much cover on a nasty day . Agree about Coniston was a bit too straightforward last time I went . Blackpool good at mo along with Crabtree , though I know you not keen ! Have not bumped into you recently ?

Called in at barbury last year on way back from southampton. Really impressed, very friendly, some excellent targets , especially the high tower , will go back some time , tho it a bit of a drive from the Lake District !!
