I wonder why Zoli guns have not taken off?

Despite Mick Nicholson, Becky MacKenzie ( Bream) and Phil Bailey having good results with them and Edgar Bros doing a sterling job promoting them, you don't see many about.

Are they any good? Are they overpriced? Has Antonio upset too many people? Is the model range confusing ? Do they lose value too quickly?

I have seen a few for sale second hand in gunshops and the salesmen have not pushed them at all, in fact a few have actually scoffed and steered me away from them, in the direction of guns of similar price such as DT10's and Perazzi.

So is it a lack of  reliability or a  quality issue or what?

It's a matter of price and styling. They have pitched it at P money when they have not earned the right to and the Z should have been put on the hinge pin not the centre of the action, if at all. There are other subtle things but they'd need to pay me for the rest.

That's a good question Pete! I think they may be viewed with some suspicion in the uk, as are Gamba to some extent. Not sure how dear they are,but if they are even close to perazzi or dt prices, well I guess people will stick with wha is a known quantity mate!

I had a chat with the Zoli team whilst in Prague.
I tried the sporter used by Becky.
It didn't feel so good to me in the shoulder.
The sales dude offered me the Ambassador round action, now this was lovely. Felt great.
But..........over £12k!!!
Nope ta.
They were having some issues with Denise Eyres gun when I was in the tent don't know what it was.
Sure they got it sorted.

Sent from my mobile that's my excuse for typos and errors.

Think they might have just given Melanie Sykes one...wonder if that will help?

She has definitely been 'tweeting' about them...

OK I'll relent, to succeed in marketing look at those who have done it well before, this is what the Chinese and Japanese among others have done, copy winning formula in other words. This is what CG did so successfully, you can't create a brand by addressing only one segment and you most certainly can't play with the big boys until you have a healthy market share.

Even today CG are not going eye ball to eye ball with the top makes, no need to, they understood from the start that to establish a brand you need bums on seats or guns in hands to be more precise so they offered affordable ranges with many options and made sure they stood out in appearance and listened to criticism and took customer service very seriously. I contacted the Zoli importer 18 months ago with a view of purchasing an extra set of barrels for my Kronos and despite acknowledging receipt of and a promise to get back I heard nothing even though I chased them again. CG are famed for their customer focus, which brand deserves to succeed?

I have just browsed the Zoli web pages and in the main they're pretty good but the type face is small with too much info and impossible to get an idea of prices but what is fairly obvious is that they have no entry level £1500 or even £2500 guns lined up. They are fooling themselves basically. Get some cheaper guns out in the domain first then start commanding £6k or £12k  :money:  , who in their right mind would pay that kind of money for an unknown quantity? Not many, loads would pay £2500 grand though so long as the spec and options are right. A small company should be able to offer a more tailored approach to customer demands than giants such as Beretta.  I am currently awaiting answers from another newbie company / importer with illusions of grandeur, they have no web site, no stock list with pictures, no satellite dealer I could visit within 100 miles, no nothing but they want £2900 for what I can't see even a picture of as of yet. It all comes down to how badly you want it, just like everything else in every other walk of life. Zoli need to employ the services of a marketing specialist.

Answer is simple for me, reliability and cost. The early models were a disaster in terms of reliability and the new models are over priced, I was quoted £7,200 for a Zoli Extra (I think that was what they called it), this didn't include factory fitting, so for a little more cash I could go to Perazzi, buy a MX2000S and have it factory fitted.

For anyone interested in buying a new Zoli (or even a 2nd hand one), I was in Fawcett's in Lancaster a couple of weeks ago, from where I bought my Zoli Z Extra, and they have a number of new (i.e. left over surplus stock which Edgar Bro's didn't take when they took over the main dealership, as they were too many to take) Zoli Sport, Trap & Game guns for sale.

Prices for new guns ranged from £3,500 to £1,800.- Kronos, Z Extra, Ambassadors, and some of the new Z Gun range. The 2nd hand guns were also remarkably competitively priced. Bargains to be had guys.

Hope that helps.

I don't remember ever seeing a Zoli on a trap layout, but we trap shooters are a funny old lot anyway!

I'd have a Perazzi any day of the week over that
Precisely, and that mind set is what you have to change which takes planning. Look at Lexus, when Toyota decided to enter the luxury market they knew they had to play the very long game and even now only sell to a certain type of person. There is no quick fix, you must get guns out there to get seen, £2400 - £3000 max is where it's at initially, eventually if you do everything right you can have HeadLine guns costing three times as much as an aspirational purchase.

You never know, who says selling loads of £3k guns isn't more clever than a handful of Ambassadors? They're making the same schoolboy errors as Blaser. CG have done everything right in their short and mid game plan and by signing Fauldsy they pulled a blinder and showed everyone that they're in control of the long game too.

Now if they could get Mr Wilson to use one then they could probably demand that sort of money
