I mean the Comtac XP, or XPIs (without mic or downlead), and yes they make the MSA's look cheap.  I was lucky and got a second hand pair a lot cheaper (just shy of the price of some brand new Sordins) and just added the gel cups.  I have never used the Sportacs so cant really comment, but I...

    Best Gun Grease & Oil

I just use Moly grease on the trunnions and choke and Ballistol for everything else that's metal.  Slippery Dicks wax for the wood and job done.  very occasionally I might use Bisley Bore cleaner followed by Ballistol.

Snap Caps... does anyone use these?

I have a pair of snap caps, but as others have said they are used for dry firing at home only and are never left in the gun.  Essentially they are kept in my cleaning box in the man cave, come out when either me or the kids are doing some dry practice, once practice is over they are ejected, put...

IMHO 2 best options are either MSA Sordins or Peltor Comtac, both with the gel cup option - I have the Comtacs, but I have experience of the MSAs as well and both are comfortable to wear all day with glasses and the sound quality through them both is excellent. However I know some people dont...

Lead ban announcement for live quarry shooting

Sorry my social science side coming out and being a little obtuse. The argument against shooting is an emotional one not rational, humans connect with emotional ideas more readily than rational ones.  While we like to believe that humans make all important decisions rationally, using logic and...

Lead ban announcement for live quarry shooting

Some very interesting reading on this thread. First of all my cards on the table - I am in inexperienced shot with a shotgun, I do have experience and understanding of government departments and commercial and communication strategy. Some questions and observations: Do we really believe that...

    British shooting show this weekend

Heading over there on Sunday with the family for a mooch.  The girls are looking for skeet vests so hopefully they find something there as local shops dont stock much for females

    Plastic or Fibre Wad

My view for the OP (and I am a newbie so take from it what you will). 4 of us in my family shoot (my dad, myself and my 2 girls), I tend to buy my shells from my main shooting ground, and we all use Plas wad in the main.  I know the shooting ground routinely cleans up the wads so it is in...

What did you do today that’s shooting related?

Yesterday I swapped out the foam pads for gel ones on my Peltor Comtac XPs, makes a huge difference in both comfort and how they seal.  Looking forward to giving them a proper run out at the weekend.

    Cleaning on the move

I've also gone for the squaddie proof approach and keep it simple: Ballistol spray which I use for cleaning and oil 3 piece rod and attachments 4 x 2  Grease I spray a bit of Ballistol down the barrels, then work it through with the phosphor bronze brush and let it sit wipe down all the...

Sporting Shoots; where- and how was it? (2018)

Chatsworth Country Fair yesterday, shot the sport trap (11/25).  My first time shooting anything other than Skeet, and I'm still a newbie (shooting 5 months), and I really enjoyed it even shooting as a lone gun the others in the squad were friendly enough :)   Slowly finding some confidence to...

    Multi tool/ knife

I would go for a leatherman, not the cheapest out there but given that my current one is probably 20 years old and I still use it all the time it will pay you back in years of service, not just in your gun bag but also in general use around the house and life.
