I use both eyes. but being right handed and right eyed cant hurt either.
I would not be worried if what you do is different. if it works for you then enjoy.
I would go for other then plastic when its works as well and is cost effective. I buy wads 10 k at a time, I guess I could store 150 K in my garage if needed. I buy lead in 25 pound increments and 12 to 15 pounds of powder at a time. I hope everything we shoot is recycled and reused many times.
