So, I have been wondering for a while, about adding some weight between the barrels of my Beretta Silver Pigeon 1.
The balance was butt heavy and about an inch or so back from the hinge pin.
Without being entirely sure why and only inspired by watching a Beretta worker, balancing a 692...I have added weight.
Two strips of lead flashing, 18mm wide. The upper strip is shorter, due to the shape of the gap.
Each strip was formed along a kitchen broom handle, to add some curve.
The longer strip, was then taped to the underside of the bottom barrel and GENTLY formed around it, with a wooden rolling pin, which now has lead imbedded in it...
The top strip, needed no further radiusing.
Forend fits on with no issues.
I have added 140g (5oz) and moved the balance point, an inch closer to the pin.
gun still feels familiar, but perhaps a touch more "solid" between the hands and slightly less whipy.
Gun weighs 8lb 7oz or around 3.8Kg
I have been doing OK at the sporting of late, so any detrimental effect should be obvious.
