Im sure this is probably an age old question and one which has been asked before but ....

What exactly is the difference between Sportrap and Compak ?

Or are they the same thing but controlled by different governing bodies i.e. FITASC Compak

Compak

Has limited target range for targets set out in the rules

Can be a mix of singles report pairs sim pairs per layout.

Various rules on timings  (made up as they go along)

Should be like fitasc with an allocated time to watch the layout.

Sportrap

Single full use

Report pair

Sim Pair

Shot straight through.

simple answer is about 30 yards differernve in target distance !!!1

compak is big scores , miss one you go home , sportrap is a test of shooting ability or at least when i set them it is

flood gates open , madd matt where are you when needed

Compak is Fitasc Paris.

Sportrap is Cpsa.

New world games coming soon...watch this space.

Sport Trap is for people who can't set targets without putting them 60+ yds out

now even you know that aint true chubbs !!!!!

the sportrap at the british could have sold 300 re entry places the enjoyment was such , what about compak , where were they this year ???? dont hear much about them but i am reliably told they are good in europe ,maybe this is where they should stop !!!!

Nothing wrong with lots of choices for the shooters. Try them all and see what you like.

If you are after World or European titles though you have to mostly step abroad to the international disciplines....we rarely get them in the UK....

It all depends on what you want to shoot. Room in the sport for all types of competitions.

Steve you are soooo close its bringing tears to my eyes! Compak is a thinking mans discipline, you need to work out how to tackle tricky sim pairs, all targets must fly over a 20m x 40m rectangle and you can use every type of clay available. Each layout can use 1 of 5 possible sequences, ie all singles, 3 singles 1 pair etc. it requires great skill from the course setter to test shooters.

Sportrap uses the same sequence single, report pair, sim pair. It uses less number of traps and therefore possible target presentations, it can be set up by any old course setter. Oh by the way, more shooters have shot 100 straight in sportrap than they have in compak in the UK, just saying....

Sportrap basically, but the yanks trademarked the name and wouldn't let the CPSA use it, so they came up with sportrap.

Maddmatt has the right answer. The other name for Universal Trench is 5 Trap.
Ah 5 trap i get that 5 stand seemed odd as DTL, ABT, OT UT all have 5 shooting positions but i knew 5 Stand wasn't trap. Just wasnt sure what it was I think i shot compak once

Well I think i pretty much know the difference now.

Sportrap - same routine on each stand. single, report pair, sim pair from 5 traps

Compak - potentially closer targets that fly over the 20m x 40m rectangle with all targets types available and more traps

Thanks for the advice !

top AA shooters shooting 14 !!! this is simple they either had a real bad day or they aint AA shooters , some just visit same grounds shoot good scores and straight into AA thats why alot now travel around to build a wealth of experience at different clays

we are lucky to be able to shoot lots of different disciplines in this country and im led to believe that EJC have a big compak next year , i will deff shoot that one , fancy a little wager madd matt ?? you have the experience at it i dont , for charity of course
