Decided to try some Sovereign 24grm for OT, the guy who sold them to me said they would be thumpy! Anyway I paid no attention to his warning, because I'm a hefty lad with a hefty gun! Jesus wept, not just punchy!!!! If I hadn't known that they were 24grm I would have said they were at least 32grm!!!! OK they are 1550 fps, but my god they kick! As far as kills go, well they are OK but not as good as my usual RC4 red shot or RC4 Champions. I've also got a slab of the 28grm ones, they are not so fast, will try them next week and see what they're like! Has anyone else tried Sovs and what did you think?

I think I will stay away from them cheers Les.

I am still on HV versus F black. Nothing definitive yet.

I'm intersted to see if the 28's have the same sort of whack as they are a bit slower. If I had been shooting a lighter gun they would have been bloody awful I should think!  Whats the difference between F Black and F Blue Ian? A mate of mine has been trying to convince me to try F Black or F Blue.

OOh fiocchi topic can we enter that as well :)

Many people say blue are softer I disagree (well I would wouldn't I) black are without doubt slightly softer than the blue. Blue are slightly faster (I know because I have chrono'd them) Different powder I think. Both very good BUT imo the extra 10 quid is worth it for blacks. Very tight patterns so if I was shooting DTL and had one of these modern all singing and dancing multi thingies I would be whacking 1/4 and 1/2 in the pointy end bit.

Mmmm, maybe I will investigate! Mind you I don't have a 1/4 choke, most open one I've got is 3/8, maybe I will get hold of one!

3/8 would be ideal I just assumed you were a well organised chap and liked even numbers :)

Try the sovereign fitasc that's a different animal all together, a box of 25 were more than enough to regret trying them!

The gun came with 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4 and full. Used 3/8 and 5/8 for ABT the other week, works well with RC4 champions.

Whenever you come across an older Perazzi Les where the inertia block won't rock for 24gm you always get a box of Sovereign, does the trick. There's a Parcours version of the 28gm now Les that claims 1600fps you could try them in the 9lb Kreighoff but I'll be standing back.

Flippin eck Fred....1600 fps...that's bloody fast! I couldn't believe how hard those Sov 24's were, even in a gun tipping the scales at over 9lbs you knew you shot em! Reminded me of an old Maioncchi 32grm trap load I tried back in the 80's, shoved a couple of boxes through my first Perazzi and I ended up with a bruised shoulder and face, horribe things!

Has anyone tried the pro fibre? Supposedly the pro one with a fibre wad? I'm interested in trying some as most grounds near here are fibre wad only.

Timely reminder that 24g doesn't automatically mean it will shoot softer than 28g ;)  .

Seem to recall they are pretty good; if over-priced. Gamebore Velocity fibre are medium recoil, low cost and no problems.

Hull Soverigns and Soverign Parcours? Sounds like my sort of cartridge. I'll have to track some down.

Always been a fan of something that fights back a bit when you shoot. Normally use Black Gold or World Cups's, both not known for being soft recoilers, but I find them really smooth and certainly sharp in their recoil.

I was put off Hull cartridges in about 1972 when I used Hull Three Crowns in my 16 bore. Biggest load of rubbish I ever used, and that was a good description of what came out of the barrel. I'm guessing things may have changed a bit as some notable shooters seem to be using Hull now.

Shot the British Open Sporting on Saturday and a guy in my squad was using a cartridge which sounded like he was using a .22 blank adaptor. His kills were noticably unconvincing, particularly on some of the more distant stuff. In fact, at range his kills were noticable by their absence. I was surprised when I found out the brand, which I won't mention in case I upset someone (again!).
