After shooting a couple of weekends ago in the hurricane I got home and oiled the gun up and left it to dry for a few hours, then I cleaned it thoroughly.!

Got it out of my slip yesterday and there was little rust spots down the outside of the barrel, I cleaned it again when I got home but how do I stop this rust business??

What those two said, oh and don't get it wet. take up trap and ensure you only shoot grounds with covers. Job done.

Thanks, ok how do I get rid of the rust, wet and dry paper with a dab of paint?

Very gentle rubbing with scotch brite pad and oil, never ever leave it in a slip for any length of time, I've been known to avoid slips even for short journeys if the gun has got wet. Towel dry and leave on top of dry clothes in the boot.

And don't forget......if its raining then refuse to leave the clubhouse until it stops, happened at SC yesterday!!!  True story!!!

If it looks like it's going to rain, I leave my gun slip in the car so I can put the gun back in a dry slip. I would never store it in the slip. If the gun slip is wet I do what Will does and break up the gun and leave it in bits on the back seat for driving home. And my husband has put those silica gel things in the gun cabinet too

If you do get your gun and slip soaked a good tip to quickly dry them is to seek out a pair of trap shooters in the clubhouse and place the wet items as close as possible. I usually find 45 minutes is enough or if your in a hurry just mention ABT.

I carry a small can of wd40 (£1.99) and a small aerosol can of 3 in 1 oil (1.99). If there is a chance that the gun is going to get wet, I spray the outside of the barrels before I start shooting. I use small piece of kitchen towel to remove the excess and wipe down the barrels, refit forend and slip gun. At the end of shooting, spray barrels inside and out with wd40. I then put gun back into gunslip and travel home. Remove gun, put onto newspaper on kitchen floor after wiping off excess moisture with kitchen towel. When dry,  clean in usual manner, place into silicone impregnated sock and back in cabinet. I carry a roll of kitchen towel on string hanging in boot from back seat headrest, problem is so many other shooters have seen this and I now seem to go through kitchen towel at one hell of a rate.   :fie:

The mention of ABT is often enough to start a riot, especially anything to do with it in its current V its old format!!

I used to do this in my late teens early twenties in my "marina van" it wasn't for the same use as westley though.
