Spoke to john at mid Wales yesterday he had just recieved a shed load of promatics ala common wealth games ex stock and is planning two full Olympic trap layouts should be interesting for you tarpies out there.....................

Any new OT layouts is good news indeed.

On the downside yet another OT layout over 90 miles (and a minimum of 2 hours drive) away...although this could actually be the closest yet?

Laportes. There have been rumours flying about for quite a while about this ,hope it all comes together. With the two new Matterelli layouts at Griffin Lloyd, Wales will be the place to be if your a tarpy! I'll have 3 OT ground within an hour and a half. Spoilt for choice!

Let me dribble another little rumour ................accommodation in the way of lodges or caravans may be round the corner........so you tarpies could have a holiday and for game shots the brigands inn shoot is 25 mins away some of the highest phezzies in the country apparently?

You are the man in the know! Sounds good. So much doom and gloom in the sport it's great to hear something positive.

Great news. Yes, they are a new type of Laporte, very quick release(no solenoid), appear very fast, good luck!

It's not a rumour!

OK sensible advice ...to any shooters in the UK considering any of the 3 ISSF disciplines as their future pathway to becoming an Olympian.....after the various controversial stories going around at the minute !

P.s. This is meant to be helpful advice to anyone reading this thread....parent or shooter.

If you are seriously considering shooting OT or any of the 3 Olympic disciplines ...and you are young or youngish.....and if you have 'limited funds'.....or if your parents are 'NOT' millionaires.....I suggest that you look into it very carefully.

You will have to travel all over the country for competition or training sessions. (Met a few Northerners who had travelled their children all over the place this week).

So.....if you are that serious ....go into it with your eyes wide open....before you waste a lot of money and time....not to mention...'broken hearts'...!

Ask real and important questions.

1) Ask about where the selection procedure and clear athlete pathway is published. The 'actual one' with the clearly laid out detail of what you HAVE to do, step by step, to actually GET a place on a GBR team. And not just the lightly brushed airy fairy version currently available on the websites, with no actual cast iron guarantees .

Then.... you can assess if you want to proceed after considering the disposable income that you have...against the risks of achieving your 'end game'..!!

2) Ask if it is 'certain', that if you jump through all the selection shoot hoops, and end up in the top 3 in the rankings.....'will you go'..to an ISSF international as a member of the GB team? Or will you ever be asked to stand aside for someone else. This will save you a lot of heart ache and disappointment.

3) Ask if 2015 will have any selection shoots.....and who will run them.... And then.....Ask if they will actually count for anything..? This will save you a lot of heart ache...if you qualify for a GB team....and then for whatever reason....YOU ARE NOT CHOSEN...!!

And then.....find out the 'most important' thing of all.....that directly affects YOU....!!

Ask 'WHO' exactly, is selecting ISSF discipline teams ....from the 2014 World Championship onwards.....?

These are all very valid questions that need answering before YOU spend your hard earned cash...on yourself...or your children.

(If you cannot get all the answers to these questions....without any long explanations or avoidance.........then there is always UT.....and the rest of the other Fitasc disciplines ...!!)

If you ignore this....some of you may be better to flush your wads of £50 notes straight down the loo now.

Good luck..!!

There goin top end go ground above clubhouse , talking of starting work on them after Gamebore weekend

This is brilliant getting two new Olympic layouts...!

I thought it was just new traps.

Looks like Wales could be the place to live if you want to shoot OT in the future.

Actually Shropshire may be the place ! 45 minutes to Mid Wales, Griffin Lloyd & Sealand  (also Doveridge and Garlands  if they got off their backsides).

But as you say Nicola, it will all be a little pointless unless we shake up qualification procedure.

But has it not always been the case that a thick wallet can buy a GB vest?

No I am afraid that I disagree with that point really. You cannot buy yourself into a GBR team....because they want to win.....and up to BS getting involved...you only made it in on 1-3 in rankings from GBR selection shoots.Of course in reality we all know that competition shooting in UK is not a cheap hobby. You have to train, you have to travel and you also have to use hotels at lots of selection shoots if they are far from home.

Then when and if you win your place....you then have to self-fund to get yourself an air ticket, a hire car, a foreign hotel, find the ground, pay your entry, feed yourself, shoot your competition, return home with or without medals and hope that someone in shooting will have recognised your effort.....or even know that you went.

Sometime (a lot) you have to put up with the fact that even when you win....the report of your win might not even make a shooting magazine and most certainly will not make the front pages of the Cpsa website.....and might not even make the BICTSF website...(unless you are an ISSF discipline).

So in reality....even after you have put all this effort in....you find that the only ones interested ....are your own discipline shooters.

Do you think that that attracts those with a thick wallet....??

Or does this attract dedicated followers of the disciplines who scrap together their self-funding by whatever means possible to get out there and win...!!

Lets have some reality here pleeeeeeeeease.

I know the answer....but do most people?

You forgot to mention buy your own team uniform! Well at least that one no longer applies as you will have to wear what you always shoot in :)

Well the Fitasc disciplines side will just have to arrange another one....if they do not want to look like numpties abroad when representing GBR......when going to compete and win medals by.........now what was the phrase.........oh yes........by chance rather than design.......or was it .......'we want to win medals by design not stumble across them by chance' or some other crass comment ...!!
