On Sunday we went to shoot a registered FITASC Sporting comp at what I believe to be a fairly new, or at least newly resurrected ground in Suffolk, called Highwaymans.

Situated in Risby, Suffolk, and in fact not too far from Barrow Heath. We had a 9.00am start and proceeded to enjoy a very nice day with good target presentations, good clubhouse and toilet facilities, and I have to say very well organised. Huge piece of land but all four parcours were within 200-400 metres of the clubhouse.

We were in a really great squad and I would thank them for helping to make the day so enjoyable, with special thanks to Dick Arbon, who not only shot a fantastic 91 on the day, but was extremely supportive to both myself and Pam.

Now those regulars of you on here will no doubt have gathered that I am a huge supporter of Barrow Heath, but since they are so close I would hope that the organisers of this new facility are sensible enough to slot in their comps within the gaps when Barrow Heath is not on, because it would be a shame for shooters to be unnecessarily forced into splitting their loyalties. Certainly this comp did not conflict, and they have already announced another FSP for 22nd/23rd March, which also does not conflict. So it seems, so far at least, that sensibility rules !

We have already booked in for the next one on 23rd, so if you fancy a change then I am sure you will enjoy it.

As for my shooting ? . . . . . . . well I can tell you that I raised my game on Sunday up to levels of consistently average . . . . . . . 17  :  17  :  16  :  15  =  65

Oh well, onward and upward  :haha:

Pam had a PB though, breaking 50% in FSP for the first time with a 53 . . . . . . you go girl   :girlinlove:

Had heard of this 'new' ground appearing in FITASC Sporting fixtures... always nice to see - and good to hear it was decent quality Malc.

I met a number of shooters who went there on Saturday, and then went to Hornet on Sunday for the final day in the Winter series... and reports were largely in line with your... good targets, nice atmosphere... and good hospitality.

Will put it on the radar for a trip.

We shot there on Saturday in glorious sunshine; and it is great to have another shooting ground that intends holding registered events and we wish them lots of success.

Has anyone heard what the final results were over the two days?

Thanks G.G. for the kind words; it was indeed a great squad to shoot with.

The shoot was very well run and I for one can't wait to shoot there again. A very big well done to all of the organizers.

Not seen any feed back on the sporting over the bank Holliday Monday 21/April/14 at the Highwayman! Tough round I thought but very nice place. I'm only 5'6" never did see that teal bird on stand 7 just an 8' Thorne hedge! We little guys & girls have to give the big guys an head start. I think the target would have been ok if the wind had not fought with it. I shot barrow Heath on the Friday 18/April/14 top place good all round targets for C To AA shooters.

I shot there and thoroughly enjoyed it!  We arrived fairly early and shot it easily with little queues.  I gather later on it got very busy and there were a few issues but im sure that will be sorted for next time!  I guess beautiful bank holiday weather without a great deal on led to large numbers.

There were some great, challenging targets some needing a huge lead!  Not sure which Stand 7 with a teal is that you are referring to ... the only stand that I can think of that was possibly 'heightist' was the high l-r crosser with a crow (sim pair).  However as I like to shoot stuff at it's peak it was ok for me, yet the taller shooter I was with likes to shoot stuff on the drop so the hedge was more of an issue to him on this occasion!   Thought the huge teal down from the car park was great, was pleased to hit 2!  Watched various people try various way, quickly, on it's peak and on the drop.  Saw someone hit three, would love to know if anyone straighted it?!  (Maybe that's the target you are referring to)!

Look forward to their next sporting, although I haven't seen when it is.  For those of you who got caught up in the afternoon delays, please don't let this put you of an otherwise excellent shoot!

Yes it was stand 7 Emma the simo pair, you had it right the quick left to right high looper with the long incoming crow, with a high hedge in front of the stand.  We shot quite late when the wind had got up a bit and it did make that stand very tricky for everyone, especially 5' 5's like me, I had to stand right at the back of the stand to see the crow and I do shoot fairly quick, so I was happy with a 7/10 off that stand.  I thought the targets were excellent, there was indeed an issue with empty traps and breakages, and the competitors who shot later did have a lot of issues and sadly there were many complaints.  I will say that when we handed our cards in around 4.30 (we started around 1.00) Karen apologised to everyone of us and was very sorry that we had encountered so many problems, Ian (my better half) had tried to help by filling traps as did one or two other shooters.

I hope this doesn't put people off as hopefully it was a 'one off' and the weather obviously was a bonus.

By the way Emma fantastic shooting well shot.

I think we definitely shot it at the right time! Two hours for us and no breakdowns.

And thank you for your comments on my score, however there must be a mistake! I've phoned the ground so they can look into it!

Looking forward to the next shoot there anyway.

Yes stand 7 the crow! thought it was a long range incoming teal thing, (did hit it but shot through that little hole in the top of the hedge) been told since that people stud out side the back of the cage to see it, I thought that would be a disqualification as the ground was about 8 inches higher. I for one was filling traps to help out as the poor ref was getting a right bitching from some shooters that had waited 30 minutes. My son & grandson sat on the back of my tailgate in the car park while I ran back to finish stands 5 6 2, he said guns was not happy as they walked by. I thought it was ace" although I shot badly, but that's my fault as I had arrange a meal in Mildenhall at 3:30 for 7 of us :( & rang my wife about the delays, well the rest you can guess, apparently the pain I have in my kidneys today was down to the beer? I for one would travel from Lincolnshire 150 mile to shoot it if they have more sporting comps, grounds are closing all over the place, I love barrow Heath, so two on one Sunday within a mile, yes please.

I think we started at the wrong time, there wasn't a stand that didn't have either broken targets, empty traps or malfunctions. We shot in a group of four and it took us nearly five hours to get to the penultimate stand, where we decided to call it a day.

Great bit of land, nice clubhouse and decent targets, let down by congestion and poor trap management when we were there.

The crow and rising midi was questionable - the scorer told us to stand 8 feet out of the cage which was a bit sketchy as he was then in front of the loaded guns...

Hope it was a one off as it could be a real asset!

I shot the teal on the way down and missed the last one as i tried to shoot it early, but was happy with 7!
